Sheila Langlois Memorial Fellowship for Study Abroad in Art History and the Humanities Eligibility and Criteria: Cumulative GPA at time of application: 3.25 All applicants must be degree-seeking students during the time of their study abroad. Undergraduate applicants must have at least 30 hours of coursework completed or in progress and be enrolled as a UW student at the time of application. Graduate applicants must have at least 9 hours of directed coursework completed or in progress and be enrolled as a UW student at the time of application. UW students in art history or humanities discipline (including art, art history, culture, history, literature, philosophy, religious studies, modern/classical languages, international studies or interdisciplinary fields who will participate in study abroad, an international exchange program, international internship, or another UWsanctioned activity abroad may apply. Record and potential for academic excellence and enhanced professional development; documentation of potential for significant contributions to field via international study and/or research; Graduate students must outline their research project design and justify why their project should be undertaken at their particular host institution, and how the experience will uniquely prepare or allow them to push the frontiers of knowledge in their field. Undergraduate students must outline why research and/or language study they will undertake is particularly well suited to their host institutions, and how the experience will uniquely prepare them for profession and/or academic careers. Demonstrated financial need may also be considered. Applicants will have their initial written applications screened; select students may be chosen for interviews. Interviews, if necessary, will determine final awardees. Application requirements: 1. Completion and submission of this application form. 2. A one-page essay describing the intended program of research or study, including a. For undergraduate applicants (and graduate students as applicable) prospective courses, how those courses will fit into your studies upon return to UW, and how those courses will impact your impact on your future profession. b. For graduate student applicants – a brief abstract or executive summary of your research program, and why that research should be done specifically in the location you propose; and c. Language and other academic preparation you have made in preparation for study abroad, as appropriate for your study location. 3. A one-page essay describing your academic and professional goals and how they will be impacted by your time abroad, including a. How the research or study program you propose will put you in a position, upon your return to UW, to impact the future of your field of study. In this essay, please explain how your time at your specific location abroad will impact your ability to further your knowledge of your academic field, and how you will be able to further the frontiers of knowledge in your field by participating in this specific program. 4. A budget (please use the attached budget form). Students wanting to do independent research should outline their research design and give contact information for their project / independent study faculty mentor. 5. A copy of an unofficial transcript 6. A proposed set of activities that will be pursued upon the student’s return to further internalization at UW. 7. Two recommendation letters from faculty members familiar with your goals and plans abroad. These letters should address specifically your ability to undertake the program of study or research you are proposing. They should not be generic letters that were written for general recommendation purposes. Faculty should be asked to email their letters directly to iposship@uwyo.edu, separately from your application to be received by the respective deadline.
