Transportation infrastructure of the Republic of Belarus
(Market review)
Belarussian Transport Week was launched at 2007Th under the aegis of Ministry of
Transport and Communications of the Republic of Belarus. For eight years of its
large-scale work, Belarussian Transport Week became the leading event of
transport branch of the country.

Road transport infrastructure of the Republic of Belarus
Republic of Belarus has the developed motorway and public road network. Its total
length is 86,6 thousand kilometers. Length of republican roads makes 15,7
thousand kilometers, local roads – 70,9 thousand kilometers. Practically all
republican roads have advanced surface coverings. Density of a public road
network makes 417 kilometers on 1000 square kilometers and is one of the highest
among the CIS countries.
The realized projects presented in the section Road transport infrastructure:
 Reconstruction of the republican highways connecting the city of Minsk to
the regional centers.
 Reconstruction of the international transport roads: highway M-7 (MinskOshmyany - The Belarus–Lithuania border), highway M-3 (Minsk –
Vitebsk), highway M-8/E95 (Border of the Russian Federation – Vitebsk –
Gomel – border of Ukraine).
 Reconstruction of a section of the M-6 Minsk-Grodno highway at the cost of
an investment loan of the International Bank for Reconstruction and
Development to the amount of 250 million US dollars. The project provides
for improvement of the M-6 transit corridor.
 The launch of the large-scale project of construction of roads with a cementconcrete covering (within the framework of the order of the Head of the
Country).
 Construction of the second ring road of Minsk city.
 Creation of an intellectual transport system of security of Minsk city.
 Introduction of new model of the state contracts in the maintenance of
republican roads (within realization of the State Program on development
and the maintenance of roads in Republic of Belarus for 2015-2019).
 Development of public-private partnership in the sphere of roadside service.
Rail infrastructure of the Republic of Belarus
The railway transport of the Republic of Belarus is presented by the Belarusian
Railway - the leader of the national transportation system. The Belarusian
Railway consisting of 29 republican unitary enterprises, 30 support services,
departments and other structural subdivisions, and also establishments of education
and culture, ensuring trouble-free operation of a railway track and carrying out its
repair.
In the technical plan, the maintenance of devices of infrastructure of the Belarusian
railway meets the standards and rules established on the railroads of the CIS and
Baltic countries.
Nowadays Belarusian railway is a modern, well developed transport system with
the length 5,5 thousand kilometers, about 900 kilometers of this system are
electrified. Length of the single track sections compounds 3,9 thousand kilometers,
length of the double track sections – 1,6 thousand kilometers. Transportations are

carried out by trains with the weight under 7 thousand tons and with the length up
to 1500 meters.
The structure of transport and logistic system of the Belarusian railroad includes
six main logistic centers which structure includes loading and unloading points.

 Realization of the State program of development of railway transport of the
Republic of Belarus for 2016-2020 years.
 Increasing of transit efficiency of the Republic of Belarus and optimization
of control of the goods transfer through the customs borderline, the
reduction of periods of customs clearance
 Improvement of a passenger complex.
 Applying of information technologies in cargo transportation.
 Electrification of sites of the railroad Gomel-Zhlobin and Molodechno –
Gudogai.
 Modernization of devices of electric centralization and automatic lock-out.
 Improvement and introduction of the modern, power effective control
systems, raising the safety of train traffic.
 Cooperation with foreign railway administrations and development of
international passenger and freight transportation.
 Interaction with the Eurasian economic commission within implementation
of the contract on the Eurasian economic union concerning of railway
transport.
Aviation infrastructure of the Republic of Belarus
The aviation transport system of the Republic of Belarus includes airlines, national
and the regional airports, the organization for air navigation service of air traffic,
the Center of coordination and ensuring flights, objects of radio engineering
ensuring flights and aviation telecommunication.
Belarus has established regular air services with the following States: Armenia,
Cyprus, Russian Federation, the United Kingdom, Germany, Georgia, Israel,
Ireland, Cyprus, Poland, Turkey, France, the Czech Republic, Italy, Sweden,
Latvia, Iran, Austria, Kazakhstan, Egypt.
Regional airports of the Republic of Belarus due to their geographical positions are
optimal for transit technical aircraft landings for refueling fro foreign countries,
carrying out flights from the Central Asia countries to Europe. As well as the
Middle East airlines companies to Scandinavian countries.
Minsk National Airport is the main air gateway to the Republic of Belarus and
occupies an advantageous geographical location as it is situated at the intersection
of the biggest main lines connecting the Western Europe with CIS countries. It has

the modern air terminal complex calculated on service of 5,8 million passengers a
year.
There is 1 operative runway with an artificial covering, the length is 3641 m (CAT
II) that allows accepting all types of aircrafts for 24 hours and one Terminal with a
capacity of 3,6 million passengers per year in Minsk National Airport. There are 55
places of parking for aircrafts, from them 51 parking with an artificial covering.
Minsk National Airport has got the certificates according to four Systems of
Quality Management. The quality management system of the airport was certified
for the compliance with the ISO 9001:2008 standard. It is a member of Airports
Council International and the Airport Association of CIS Civil Aviation.
TRANSAVIAEXPORT Airlines performs commercial air operations and air
transportation of cargo. It operates more than 10 IL-76 TD heavy-lifters capable to
transport up to 45 tons of freight with the volume up to 210 cubic metres.
The realized projects presented in the section aviation infrastructure:
 Realization of the first phase of the aircraft repair plant on the territory of the
National Airport Minsk.
 Reconstruction and capital repair of airfields of Brest and Grodno cities.
 Construction of the second artificial runway that allows accepting aircrafts
of type A-380.
 Equipment of the National airport with modern security and notifications
systems.
 Involvement of the strategic investor the development of Transaviaeksport
Airline.
Infrastructure of a water transport of Republic of Belarus
The water transport system includes 10 river ports, serving the waterways of the
rivers Dnieper, Berezina, Sozh, Pripyat, Western Dvina , Neman, Mukhovets and
Dnieper- Bug Canal. The length of the operated water ways makes 1,6 thousand
km.
The system of water transport includes transportation and freight forwarding
companies carrying out the sea freight transportation (JSC Belarusian Sea Shipping
Company, JSC Belarusian Shipping Company, CJSC Belarusian Transportation
and Freight Forwarding Company).
Ship building and repair is carried out at Pinsk Shipyard, as well as in the river
ports of Gomel and Retchitsa.
The realized projects presented in the section infrastructure of a water transport:

 Development of the water transport system to meet the growing
transportation needs of foreign trade goods, both within the EU and with the
neighbors.
 Restoration of Dnieper -Vistula-Oder waterway, that belongs to the main
waterways E 40.
 Reconstruction of hydraulic engineering constructions of the DneproBugsky channel.
 Updating of reloading devices of ports.
 Reconstruction of wooden locks.
