ASSESSING THE STUDENTS` STUDYING ACTIVITIES
Forms of control and evaluation system are held pursuant to the requirements of the
discipline and the new edition of the "Guidelines for evaluation of learning activities of students
in the implementation of credit-modular system of studying process organization " approved the
Health Ministry of Ukraine on January, 21, 2008 №08.01-22/65.
Assessment for the module is defined as a sum of the marks for current studying activities
(in points) and evaluation of the final module control (in points), which is assigned at evaluating
the theoretical knowledge and practical skills according to the lists specified by the Program of
discipline.
The maximum number of points assigned to students with having learned module 1 - 200,
including for the current studying activity - 120 points (60%), by the results of the final module
control – 80 points(40%).
The current control is performed on each class according to specific goals for each topic.
By learning the each module topic a student is assigned marks by a traditional 4-point scale,
which than are converted into the points.
The traditional mark "5" corresponds to the maximum number of points a student can get
during practical classes topics studying, i.e. 8 points. Marks "4" and "3" are in points,
respectively 80% and 60% of the maximum points` rating, i.e. 6 and 5 points respectively.
Students who attended the auditorium classes and for the evaluation had been rated "2 are
assigned the minimum number of points, which corresponds 30 % of the traditional mark "3 "
points i.e. 2 points.
The maximum number of points that the student can get by studying the module 1 is 120 .
It is the result of multiplying the number of points that correspond mark "5 " on a number of
topics in the module with the addition of points for individual independent work, if such is
provided by the program.
The minimum number of points that the student can get by studying a module is
calculated by multiplying the number of points that correspond the mark "3", on number of
topics in the module.
Because the program provides the obligatory accomplishing of individual students'
independent work on supervising the patients, writing down and defense of the case history, the
minimum mark includes the number of points which correspond to mark "3" for this work as
well.
Points for individual work are added to the number of points obtained by a student for the
current studying activity. Defense of case history is made during the time allotted for the student
independent work at the department.
The student can work out the topics missed or retake them for a positive mark with the
teacher during his consultations (individual work with students) not more than 3 times during the
module studying, thus obtaining the points number not less than the minimum to be admitted to
the final module control.
Evaluation of students' independent work on preparation for auditorium practical classes
is performed during the current control on the relevant auditorium practical classes.
Evaluation of mastering the topics submitted only to independent work and not included
to the topics of auditorium practical classes, is supervised during the final module control.
Evaluation of case history as an obligatory individual student`s work takes place during
it`s defense in the process of teacher`s individual work with a student.
Mark "5" is assigned if the student carried out a complete clinical examination of a sick
child, described it`s results, correctly evaluated a general condition of the patient, clinical
changes in the organs and body systems, results of laboratory and functional methods of
examination, correctly defined a clinical diagnosis relative to the Classification of Diseases, had
prescribed a full and proper treatment, had defined the prognosis correctly and means of it`s
prevention.
Mark "4"is assigned if the student carried out a complete clinical examination of a sick
child, but admitted inaccuracies in the description and evaluation of theexamination results,
correctly but not in a full range identified the clinical diagnosis, prescribed the treatment not in
a full mode.
Mark "3" is assigned if a student made separate mistakes in analyzing the condition,
evaluating results of clinical and laboratory examination of a sick child, reasoning the diagnosis,
prescribing the treatment, or defining the disease prognosis.
Mark"2" is assigned if the student made rough errors in analyzing the status and results of
clinical and laboratory examination of a sick child, had incorrectly reasoned the diagnosis wrong,
prescribed an improper treatment.

Work is considered to be done only in the case of receiving a positive mark for the case
history.
The final module control study is carried out on completion of all the module topics`
studying on the last control practical class of the module.
To the final module control admitted are the students who had completed all the work
types, provided by the curriculum and having obtained a sum of points not less than the
minimum when studying a module.
The form of the final module control is standardized and includes the control of
theoretical practical training.
The maximum number of points of final module control is 80.
The final module control is considered to be passed if the student scored at least 50
points.
Control of theoretical and practical training of students during final module control that
lasts for 5 semester hours is carried out by such regulations:
Test control - 40 tests, carried out for 40 min. The maximum number of points - 20 (0.5
points for 1 correct answer).
Performing the practical skills by students at the patient`s bedside (assessment of general
condition of a sick child, physical examination and determination of clinical changes in the
organs and systems, establishing a preliminary diagnosis, treatment prescription, determining
first aid measures, etc.) - 100 min. The maximum number of points is 30.
Solving the complex structured situational problem which includes the interpretation of
data of laboratory and instrumental examinations, determining the preliminary clinical diagnosis,
defining the therapeutic tactics, prescribing the treatment and testing results of this work in the
presence of a student - 60 min. The maximum number of points is 30.
