WP5: Climate change impact on hydrology
Coordinator: Rodica Mic
The objective of this WP is to develop hydrological models on various spatial and
temporal scales in order to estimate the climate change impact on hydrology, focusing
on extreme events. This WP is coordinated by the INHGA and is divided into 4 tasks:
Task 5.1: Assessment and identification of floods and droughts spatial and temporal
pattern in the selected basins. The conditional physical-geographical factors of extreme
hydrological events will be quantifying as indexes based on multi-variate analysis; will be
quantifying the impact of climate change on the degree of silting-up of Tungujei
reservoir and determining morphodynamic of the river bed downstream of the dam; will
identify areas of active exchange between surface water and groundwater.
Task 5.2: Development of hydrological models on various spatial and temporal scales
in the selected basins. Two types of hydrological models (conceptual and distributed) on
various spatial scales ranging from small to large river basins from Romania will be
applied.
Task 5.3: Estimating the impact of climate change on extreme flow in the selected
basin based on hydrological models. The climate change impact in hydrological
processes will be, for the first time in Romania, achieved for some representative basins
and for selected pilot basins placed in different physico-geographical conditions using
considered hydrological models - this detailed spatio-temporal assessment of the
climate change impact on the hydrological regime is an important novelty in Romania;
hydrological - hydrogeological model will be developed in order to determine the
influence of climatic factors on groundwater.
Task 5.4: Estimating the impact of climate change on extreme flow regime by
advanced statistical methods. Quantifying climate change on extreme flow regime will
be determined by establishing areas of homogeneous micro-areas by association of
flood with the intensity and duration of rains in the analyzed area.
