The Arizona Telemedicine Program is a large, multidisciplinary, university based
program that provides telemedicine services, distance learning, informatics training and
telemedicine technology assessment capabilities to communities throughout Arizona. As
an initiative of this program, the department has been using TeleVital’s technology at the
Lowell Elementary School of Phoenix. During the year 2002 students were regularly
screened for asthma with spirometry and oximetry tests performed on students exhibiting
signs or symptoms of asthma. These test results were stored in a secure server allowing
medical specialists throughout Arizona to access and respond to specific cases. TeleVital
stands beside its clientele in extending the best of technology to those who need it

Ecuador Virginia : Commonwealth University Medical School, located in Richmond,
Virginia provides remote anesthesia monitoring services to Secua, Ecuador, using
TeleVital’s VitalWare technologies which monitors and records physiological data in
real-time over the Internet. A consulting anesthesiologist at the Virginia Commonwealth
University’s Medical College of Virginia Hospital monitored the breathing and heart
rhythms of a young woman undergoing a gall bladder operation 3,000 miles away in
Secua, Ecuador. The operation, which was performed in a remote area of Ecuador,
exemplifies how easy it is to connect to VitalWare. Using a laptop computer in Virginia,
a member of the surgical team logged into the TeleVital Website and monitored the
patient’s vital signs. This field test in Ecuador was part of ongoing telemedicine
evaluations conducted by VCU- based Medical Informatics and Technology Applications
Consortium (MITAC), a Commercial Space Center (CSC) sponsored by the National
Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA). The project was conducted using
TeleVital’s VitalWare technology under the direction of MITAC Executive Director,
Charles R. Doarn.

Kansai Medical University is one of the largest medical universities in Japan. It is
affiliated with the Cardiovascular Institute of Japan, recognized to be one of the leading
cardiovascular centers in Japan. Dr. Yutaka Kimura and his medical staff at Kansai
Medical University are using TeleVital’s VitalWare technologies to allow a remote
Cardiologist the ability to supervise a treadmill stress test from another location. In Japan
as well as in the U.S., a Cardiologist is required to supervise all treadmill stress testing.
Using TeleVital’s remote monitoring solutions, Dr. Kimura supervises full 12 lead
treadmill stress test in real-time from the convenience of his office. Dr. Kimura is also
using the system to educate his medical students in performing, reading and triaging ECG
recordings. This project involved the cooperation of CISCO and Sony Corporations. With
expanding networks in 3 continents today, with innumerable lives being touched,
TeleVital is here with an affirmed presence to bridge the health care divide. An eHealth

Mexico : La Benemerita Universidad Autonoma de Puebla (BUAP), a leading academic
institution in Mexico for 450 years with a medical school in operation for over 170 years,
is recognized as one of the biggest medical universities in Mexico. BUAP’s Telemedicine
department provides health care and education services throughout Puebla, one of the
largest states in Mexico with a population over 3.5 million. The main telemedicine center
is in the Hospital Universitario de Puebla (HUP) and is supported by Hospital General de
la Secretaria de Salud, a hub clinic in Tehuacan. Currently remote medical consultations
are being conducted from Tehuacan, Libres and Chignahuapan with permanent
installations being deployed in Pahuatlan, Eloxochitlan, Tenampulco, and San Diego la
Mesa, Tochimiltzigo. The BUAP telemedicne hybrid network is made up of private and
public satellite and fiber-optic networks. TeleVital’s VitalWare technologies allow
BUAP to connect patients and doctors together from anywhere in Mexico and the United
States. Using VitalWare, BUAP is able to connect underserved rural towns with medical
specialists located in urban centers.
On August 26th, 2002 a 64 year old female patient located in the San Diego la Mesa
telemedicine center was triaged by Medical Doctors located in Hospital Universitario de
Puebla, Audiotorio de la Rectoria en Edificio, and the University of Galveston in Texas.
The patient’s vital-signs (blood pressure, pulse, body temperature, and blood oxygen)
were recorded and streamed to all the Medical Doctors. During the oral examination
phase of the examination, the patients pulse rate doubled to 133 bpm. The rise in heart
rate was observed by all the doctors in real-time allowing them to discuss the patient’s
prognosis. A decision was made to run more blood tests in order to rule out a differential
diagnosis. On the same day, a second patient with a history of chest pain was admitted
into the telemedicine clinic in Carolino. A four limb EKG was conducted and streamed in
real-time allowing all the doctors to inspect and consult on the patients ECG. After a
short discussion, the doctors agreed that the patients ECG was normal and advised that
the patient reduce his stress.

Japan : Ehime Medical University recently executed a wireless patient monitoring
demonstration project in Ehime, Japan. The project was coordinated by Dr. Eizen
Kimura, M.D. Ph.D., IT Director of Ehime Medical University. The demonstration
project demonstrated the flexibility of TeleVital’s VitalWare technologies which among
many things allows moving vehicles such as ambulances to remain connected to a
wireless Wi-Fi network during transnsport. The demonstration exhibited an ambulance
driving from a car accident to a hospital while the patients 12 lead ECG and video was
transmitted in real-time over Cisco’s WLAN. Doctors located in the hospital were able to
login to the hospital’s network and monitor patients in transit.
