1) Read through the mark scheme below, discuss with your neighbour the key things needed for a
high level answer.
Level 1 (1-4 marks)
Simple description of the climate of one type of tropical region; explanation is either simplistic or non
existent.
Level 2 (5-8 marks)
Specific detail is sued to describe the regime of one tropical climate, with an attempt to explain one
aspect (temperature, precipitation, wind).
Level 3 (9-10marks)
Fully developed answer with both accurate description and clear explanation of the climate of one
appropriate tropical region.
2) Now read the question set:
With reference to one tropical region that you have studied, describe and explain the
characteristic features of the climate of that region. (10 marks)
3) In your book, write the question out and annotate around the question to break down what it
means.
4) Discuss with your neighbour what needs to be included and agree a structure for your answer.
5) You will have approximately 45 mins in the exam to answer the questions on weather and climate,
approximately 15 mins each. You now have 15 mins to write your answer in silence. Don’t forget to
review your work – level, mark, comment.
