Poznań, 11 December 2007
It was on Żubr
A renovated square named after the Home Army at Białystok’s green belt, a refreshed arbour in
Lublin’s Saxon Garden, more attractive paths at Sobótka Bay in Płock and Długie Lake in Olsztyn,
transformed Jelenia Dolina (Deer Valley) near Elbląg and a an upgraded vantage point located close
to the Vistula Defenders Monument are all results of a months’ long fund raising project “Żubr. The
choice is made here”.
With a little help from Żubr, the second largest beer brand in Poland, the summer fund raising project
has generated over PLN 600 thousand to renovate outdoor recreation areas selected by the regions’
inhabitants. The project was preceded by plebiscites conducted by local media in April. An agreed
amount of money from each bottle of Żubr beer sold by the end of July was dedicated to renovating
the greenery. All renovation works sponsored by the project money have been recently completed.
In Białystok the region’s inhabitants managed to collect over PLN 140 to renovate a square named
after the Home Army at the city’s green belt.
- The involvement on the part of inhabitants of Białystok, the home city of Żubr, in our joint project was
immense. We are very happy to see them enjoy a venue renovated thanks to the inhabitants
themselves”, said Tomasz Kanton, brand PR manager at Kompania Piwowarska.
Together with Lublin dwellers we managed to collect over PLN 80 thousand. The funds were
dedicated to renovate a Saxon Garden arbour. The works included exchanging the roof, cleaning the
floor, restoring the benches and railings. On top of that Żubr placed 4 brand new benches in the
arbour to make relaxation in the Saxon Garden even more pleasant.
Over PLN 70 thousand raised in the Płock region paid its way to transform a path at Sobótka Bay into
a more attractive venue. The path sports 40 new benches and and rubbish bins as well as bicycle
racks. Next spring the inhabitants of Płock will feast their eyes on the freshly sown grass along the
renovated path.
Over PLN 124 thousand raised by the Olsztyn region’s inhabitants were dedicated to renovate paths
along Długie Lake. Olsztyn dwellers who enjoy outdoor relaxation may sit down on one of 10 new
benches and park their bicycles on a special rack.
- In order to take care of the greenery around the lake, Żubr has placed also 10 new rubbish bins. We
have also managed to create a small sand beach of 80 square m. and to build a terrace of 100 square
m. reaching the lake. All this is for the benefit of the city dwellers, relaxing at Długie lake”, added
Tomasz Kanton.
The inhabitants of Elbląg and the surrounds managed to collect over PLN 95 thousand. In November
together with representatives of the Elbląg forest inspectorate, Żubr commissioned a renovated
fragment of the Deer Valley.
Elbląg dwellers who enjoy outdoor relaxation, may sit down on one of 8 new benches or safely reach
the lake walking down a flight of new stairs. Żubr has also placed 5 new rubbish bins. A piping system
has also been put in place to drain off water thus preventing washing away the soil from under the
street and car park.
“Visitors of the Deer Valley will have at their disposal an information board presenting some interesting
historical facts about the venue. The most emotional part of the investment was replacement of dragon
heads, a symbol of this picturesque venue burnt down several years ago”.
Over PLN 90 thousand raised by Włocławek dwellers was dedicated to a vantage point located close
to the Vistula Defenders Monument. The terrace has now a new pavement; a stone border has been
upgraded and 2 grilling hearths have been installed.
This year’s edition of “Żubr. The choice is made here” project is part of the brand’s long-term strategy
of caring for the natural environment and issues of importance to regional communities.
