Our New Vicar
We are extremely pleased to announce that our new vicar is the Rev. Jane Facey, known
to all as ‘BJ’. BJ is currently Curate in the Benefice of West Hallam and Mapperley with
Stanley and Stanley Common, Derby Diocese and was ordained as Priest in the Diocese
of Derby in 2008.
She has a wealth of experience in organising, leading and presiding at services in the
various traditions of each of her current churches including Holy Communion, All Age
Services and Fresh Expressions – Café Praise. She has been responsible for developing
relationships within their covenant churches, working closely with their Methodist
partners in Stanley and Stanley Common, as well developing links with the Parish
Councils and statutory bodies in the Villages. Amongst her many contributions to her
current parish life, she has acted as a Community Governor at Stanley St Andrew’s C of
E Primary School and as a Common Care Committee Member, Stanley Common Village.
BJ enjoys walking, gardening, creative crafts, bird and wildlife watching, as well as
reading, theatre, trips to National Trust and English Heritage properties. In particular she
is interested in the local history and archaeology of wherever she is living.
In terms of other areas of interest she is particularly concerned with the elderly in today’s
society, in particular the rise in cases of dementia and the effect this has on their
immediate families and carers. She is interested in ecology and the preservation of our
green spaces, wet lands and wildlife as well as the challenges to village community life.
She is concerned about the exploitation of third world resources and the need for fair
trade, including fair trade closer to home for our farmers and local trades people.
Another concern is the importance of open dialogue and understanding between our
world’s major faith groups and diverse community groups.
BJ has been an advocate of Reader and other Lay Ministries for a long time and is keen to
encourage people to develop new skills.
BJ enjoys being around people and enjoys being part of a community and attending local
events. She quotes herself as being ‘an extrovert with introvert tendencies’ She enjoys all
types of worship including quiet and contemplative and is looking forward to being able
to offer and share leadership in the variety of worship offered by St Peters.
BJ says ‘The call to ministry as a Parish Priest came after a lifetime of experience in
secular employment. This is just the beginning and it is very exciting and energising
place to be. The way ahead is challenging and I am looking forward to working with
everybody at St Peter’s to meet those challenges’.
