Solutions Engineer
Fusing together a new solutions engineering team allows for more senior level appointments, training,
development & certification and an opportunity to work with Technology and industry-focused advisories and
Centers of Excellence.
Role
The Solution Engineering organization is involved in providing consistent infrastructure solutions to support
business requirements that align with roadmaps, standards, and practices; ensuring availability and resiliency.
The role of Solution Engineer encompasses the following responsibilities:
 Understanding and supporting common Allstate Solution Engineering Strategy
 Application Infrastructure design and governance for highly complex solutions
 Designing architectural solutions to business problems and leading their technical implementation
 Working across application areas to ensure consistency of approach in design and implementation
 Providing guidance on future technology use and retiring legacy technologies
 Reducing redundancy by consolidating business services across the organization
 Developing standards for documenting and describing systems
 Requirements gathering and environment design that establishes standard business hosting solutions
to help guarantee availability, resiliency and disaster recovery
This is a strategically important role that helps drive the design of the infrastructure environment that supports
Allstate applications.
Essential Criteria
Mid Range Applicants:


3rd level IT or Engineering Degree/HND qualification OR 3 year’s relevant industry experience with an
industry qualification in the absence of a Degree/HND
A minimum of 3 years' experience in Windows (Server 2003/2008) and/or UNIX (Solaris)
All Applicants:

Must be EU Citizen or possess a UK Tier 1 General Visa which entitles the applicant to take up a
full time and permanent job if successful in their application
Desirable Criteria














Knowledge of networking (routers/switches/SLB/GSLB)
Knowledge of storage (local/NAS/SAN)
Knowledge of databases (Oracle and SQL)
Knowledge of virtualization (both server and desktop)
Knowledge of SAP
One year's experience acting as a Technical Architect
Strong verbal and written communication skills
Strong analytical and problem solving skills
Ability to produce clear and concise documentation
Ability to effectively communicate technical subject matter to both technical and non-technical
audiences
Ability to work on own initiative and control individual work flow
Demonstrate excellent administration and organizational skills
Demonstrate an aptitude to learn and develop new skills
Can work independently or in a team environment
