Speaker: Ian Downie from the UK office of Collectionhq (through the agency of James Bennett/Baker & Taylor)
Collectionhq (collection performance software)

Ian gave an interesting overview of Collectionhq, outlining what it covers and how it can provide very specific
information on the performance of individual collections and individual sections within collections. It is an
“evidence based” system, providing statistics to prove customer demand for items in the collection. It hopes to
save time, eliminate waste and improve performance. Currently, 5 libraries have taken up Collectionhq,
including Brisbane City Libraries. Costs are based on population, with a once only set up fee ($3,500) and then
annual subscription (from $9,500 to $45,000 approx.). Ian is happy to discuss charges with individual libraries.

Speaker: Michael Moynihan CEO HarperCollins Publishers Australia
Michael gave an overview of his work in publishing and comments on the current issues impacting on the book
trade such as bookshop closures and ebooks. He spoke about the book acquisition process, from dealing with
authors to “profit and loss spreadsheets” to editing to getting the book into bookshops. He suggested that at
another time, we may be interested in doing a teleconference with the HarperCollins Marketing manager to
discuss ways libraries and publishers can work together to promote books. This may be something we do in
partnership with the LibMark SIG.
