Fr Joe writes:
It’s Just the Way I Am
What a great way to avoid responsibility for who we are and what we do. We need only say to ourselves or to others,
“It’s just the way I am.” The phrase implies that we have no control over who we are and what we do. What we think,
feel, and do can then be blamed on the influence of others, or on forces beyond our control. If we fail, if we are angry
or depressed, someone else is responsible for it.
It is true, of course, that we have all suffered some negative influences from others, and that adverse circumstances at
times have touched each of us. But a core of freedom remains within us, and it is there, at the core of our being,
where we have relative freedom to shape our lives. Relative freedom is quite enough for responsible decisions, and in
this life, relative freedom is all we are ever going to have.
The honest person takes responsibility for his or her life without excuses, for personal responsibility is the truth of life.
Without this truth, there can be no human community.
Let us pray: “Risen Lord, I thank you for the gift of my freedom. Give me the honesty and courage to accept the
responsibility that gift of freedom demands. Amen.”
May the blessing of our Risen Lord continue to be with you and all your loved ones throughout this coming week.

1. Frs. Joe & Renald invite you to the ‘Thank You’ Sausage Sizzle on Mothers’ Day, 10th May, after all
masses. This is to thank all parishioners for their help, commitment & support of all we do in the parish to
help our Missions here & Overseas & in many other events we have.
2. Save the Date: Whitford’s Youth are very excited to be holding our biggest WYD 2016 fundraiser yet!
Keep Saturday 25th July free for a very special event. More details to come soon.
3. “…I am the Good Shepherd…” Your prayers and generosity for the Catholic Mission Appeal this
week-end will build & strengthen the pastoral work & presence of ‘the Good Shepherd’ in impoverished
communities around the world where our Catholic missionaries are laying down their lives for those whom
they serve and love. In giving to the Catholic Mission, you strengthen the presence of Living Water that is
our missionary Church and make the Risen Christ a healing & hope-giving reality amidst unimaginable
human suffering. This year the Catholic Mission envelope offers you a choice for your missionary
offerings: Give to support our community development programs (because you need a tax deductibility
receipt), or give to support our pastoral, faith-based programs (and don’t require a tax deductible receipt).
Or both.
4. Mothers’ Day Raffle: Many prizes 1st Freshwater Pearl Necklace, 2nd prize Inlaid Pearl Cross, 3rd prize
Silver Cross, prizes 4/9 Freshwater Pearl Bracelets. Tickets 3 for $5. Drawn after 11am mass on Mothers’
Day. Thank you to our Donors for the prizes.
5. Helping Hands: Helping Hands resumes for students in Years 5 & 6 on Friday 1st May (Week 2 of
Term 2) from 5-6pm in the Parish Hall. All welcome! Contact Lisa on 0481 190 869 for more info.
6. The Bridge: Join us for our service session, where we will be lending a hand to Vincent’s Project for the
homeless We are meeting in the church hall on the 1st May at 7pm. Contact Persia on 0424 802 848 for
more information.
7. Please keep May 22nd free, Why? We will help celebrate Fr Renald’s first anniversary with a dinner at
the Prima Cucina Restaurant. Flinders Street (near Coles) watch this space for further info. Theme for the
night – Fr. ‘Renald Anthony’ i.e, Find out his likes and dislikes National Customs or something to do with
cricket. This evening will be fund raiser to go towards the Columbarium. Contact Jo 9403 2763 for further
details.
8. Valuables in Cars: Please do not leave valuables in your cars while attending the church. Sadly we
have recently had a couple of incidents over the last week of cars being broken into in the church car
parks.
9. Glory Be Cafe after the 9.30am mass was off to a good start, thank you all who supported it. Now we
are looking for some help, would you like to bake - cake, scones, savoury or biscuits, it will be only once a
month, we require the help of 3 people to serve & help with the clear- up, again once a month. At present
we only have the Cafe for the 1st & 2nd Sundays opening, if any of you wish to help to open on the other
Sundays, please sign in, forms on the desk as you enter the church. Folks we are part of this wonderful
parish, can you 'give a little back? Contact Jo 9403 2763 please note if you have an email, include it.
10. Happy Birthday  to Leo Pinto who celebrated his 75th Birthday in April and also happy birthday to his
lovely wife Zelia who will be celebrating her 70th birthday in June – best wishes and God Bless to both of
you.
11. Long weekend Parish Picnic to York, 1st June, names will be taken for the bus, $10 seat, to be paid
when booking which opens this weekend. Both Frs. Jo & Renald are planning to attend!!! What about carpooling? Yes, if you are willing to share, place you name & number you can take, on the list. If it rains, no
worries, we have the lovely Church Hall to use. Mass will be offered in the 100+ year old beautiful church. It
is BYO everything, Teas & coffees, BBQ available. Contact Jo 9403 2763.
12. Parish Confirmations: will be held at the following 6.30pm, 11.00am and 5.45pm Masses on the
weekends of 16/17th May and 23/24th May. Please prayer for these children at this important time.
13. Amended Religious Goods Stall Roster: If you are on the 5.45pm roster, please pick up your new
roster from the Religious Goods Stall. Thank you.
14. Our Lady of the Mission is looking for a CARPENTER to help with the repair and refurbishment of
our church pews. Please call Gus, our Maintenance Coordinator, on 0404 374 008 if you’re able to offer
your time and talent to do this paid work.
15. A Day With Mary will be held at our church on Saturday, 2 May from 9.00am to 5pm starting with a
video on Fatima, followed by procession and crowning of Our Lady and mass in Her honour, and
consecration of the Parish to Her. Please bring packed lunch. After the lunch break there will be
exposition and procession of the Blessed Sacrament around our church. The day includes sermons on the
Eucharist and on Our Lady, Divine Mercy Chaplet, Rosary, meditations on the Passion and Benediction.
There will also be the enrolment in the Brown Scapular and Imposing of the Miraculous Medals.

Stewardship Corner
To be good stewards we must be good shepherds, willing to lay down our lives for those committed to our
care, not mere hired hands who run off, “leaving the sheep to be snatched and scattered by the wolf.”

Congratulations! 40th Wedding Anniversaries: Fr Joe and Fr Renald and the people of Our Lady of the
Mission would like to extend a huge Congratulations to Geraldine & Denis and also Saliya & Raji, both
couples are celebrating their 40th Wedding Anniversaries.
