Purpose of Course: The College of Professional Studies has a conceptual framework that emphasizes
the training of the empowered person and professional taking action. This course involves learning
activities that permit the pre-professional teacher to examine what he/she does to take an active role in
the instructional process. This course, by virtue of its subject matter and through its activities,
assignments and expectations, will assist the pre-professional teacher with his/her development as a (1)
critical thinker, (2) life long learner, (3) counselor/mentor, (4) decision maker and (5) ethical/moral
professional thereby enabling him/her to fully develop the characteristics of an empowered person and
professional taking action.
EVT 3945 is a requirement for the undergraduate degree in Career and Technical Education
(specialization in Program Development). The course assists the development of the empowered person
and professional taking action in the roles as specialist, practitioner, and as a critical thinker, problem
solver, and decision-maker.
EVT 3945 concentrates on the achievement of skills used by teachers as they gather student data, confer
with students, and help students plan for employment or future education. The current vocational
legislation (passed in 1998) stresses the awareness of established competencies needed by students as
they enter the workforce. As teachers begin to work with students to develop these competencies,
knowledge and attitudes required by work, they must update and re-evaluate their role in preparing
students for the workforce.

JAVA Question:
What is Java? Why do I need it for my online course?
Answer:
Java is a programming language created by Sun Microsystems. It’s unique among other programming
languages because it was built to run on any operating system (Windows, Linux, Mac, etc.) Many
components in the University’s Learning Management System are created with Java, and are constructed
in a way that they can run right inside your web browser, using the Java Virtual Machine installed with
your browser.
If you don’t have a Java Virtual Machine installed, you can download the Java 2 Plugin from Sun
Microsystems, and that will install everything you need (including the Virtual Machine) to make your
online course run more effectively.
You can download the Sun Java 2 plugin for free at

Expectations for Academic Conduct/Plagiarism Policy:
As members of the University of West Florida, we commit ourselves to honesty. As we strive for
excellence in performance, integrity—personal and institutional—is our most precious asset.
Honesty in our academic work is vital, and we will not knowingly act in ways which erode that
integrity. Accordingly, we pledge not to cheat, nor to tolerate cheating, nor to plagiarize the work
of others. We pledge to share community resources in ways that are responsible and that comply
with established policies of fairness. Cooperation and competition are means to high achievement
and are encouraged. Indeed, cooperation is expected unless our directive is to individual
performance. We will compete constructively and professionally for the purpose of stimulating
high performance standards. Finally, we accept adherence to this set of expectations for
academic conduct as a condition of membership in the UWF academic community.
