FUNCTIONAL APPLIANCES
(Bionator, Herbst)
A functional appliance is used to stimulate growth of the lower jaw. This will help
in overbite correction. The best results will be achieved if the appliance is worn all
the time.
1. Remove your appliance for meals. Brush your teeth and the appliances and
massage the roof of your mouth. When brushing your retainers or appliances you
may use toothpaste. Do not use “HOT” water.
2. NEVER wrap your appliance in kleenex, etc. Or leave it anywhere that it can be
lost or broken. Your appliance is costly to replace.
3. Your speech may be affected for a week to a month until your tongue and cheeks
get used to the appliance.
4. If you cannot wear your appliance for any reason please contact us immediately!
