Attendance:
FSU Policy is that regular attendance of classes by “on-campus” students is
compulsory. The Faculty Handbook states the following:
“The faculty member is expected to check attendance in all classes. The faculty
member is expected to make some allowance for absence occasioned by illness, b
trips for the University, or by authorized field trips. Any arrangements to make up
work because of class absence is the responsibility of the student. The effect of
absence upon grades is determined by the instructor; at the beginning of the term
the faculty member explains the grading policy to the students. Class attendance
for students athletes will be monitored by the BOR rule and verified to the
Registrar’s Office”.
Absence occasioned by illness has to be properly documented. The instructor has
to be notified in advance of the event, about the absence due to trips for the
University, an authorized field trip. Evidence documenting any absence or deferral
of due dates for ALL students must be accompanied by the proper documentation.
For on-campus students, attendance is expected for each class meeting. Distance students are
required to participate in alternative Internet-based modes of instruction, including reading
the on-line lecture notes, asking questions of the instructors via e-mail, and making regular
use of the course Discussion Board (if available) to discuss the topics posted by the
instructor.
Make-Up Tests:
All tests missed without prior permission of the instructor will be made up by substitution of a
comprehensive make up test given in the week before the final exam.
Make-Up Assignments:
All assignments should be submitted by the deadline dates posted on the calendar.
A late penalty is assigned of 10 points for each day missed up to 5 days. After 5
days the assignment cannot be submitted. For documented absences of more than
5 days, the proctored exam grade for the assignment materials is used for the
missed assignment.
