One of very few people to be awarded the European Individual Award for coaching at Master
Practitioner level by the European Mentoring and Coaching Council (EMCC). Leading the
development of European Individual Assessment as a member, of the EMCC Standards Committee.
MBA, FCIPD and FCMI, with an Advanced Diploma in Professional Coach – Mentoring. NVQs in
assessment and internal verification. Particular skills knowledge and experience in the areas of
finance, information and human resources. Experience of strategic management including national
representation and negotiation. Currently mentoring and providing action learning to a number of
senior managers, teaching on OCM Advanced Diploma courses, and in-service coaching certificate
programmes for RBS ,Grant Thornton, npower and Marafiq. Assessing for the EMCC European
Quality Award and European Individual Accreditation.

Coach Mentor Supervisor for the CIPD Advanced Certificate in Professional Coach-Mentoring
and the OCM Advanced Diploma in Professional Coach-Mentoring, and for a range of incompany coaching development programmes, e.g. AVIVA, BUPA. Working with candidates
from a range of organisations: since 2010, these have included Hay, John Lewis, Tesco, Council
of Europe, PWC, European Central Bank, and HM Treasury. Running a coaching programme in

1974-2003
Worked from 1974 – 2003 for a number of probation services, commencing as a temporary
probation officer, and progressing via successive promotions to Deputy Chief. Was Deputy Chief
Officer throughout the period 1993-2003, for Essex, Inner London and London. Was responsible
directly or indirectly for every operational and back-office function over this time.
This included the implementation of substantial cuts, whilst retaining focus on front-line services,
major governance issues, large-scale change programmes and leading negotiations with the unions.
Alongside strategic organisational change, I also had responsibility for decisions about individual
risk, e.g. whether a specific parolee should be returned to prison.
1990 – 1993
ACOP Lead Officer - Domestic Violence
 Devised probation service national domestic violence policy, incorporating radical new thinking,
which brought about a revolution in probation practice in this field.
 Prepared and delivered written and oral evidence to House of Commons Home Affairs Select
Committee
1996 – 2000
ACOP Lead Officer - Finance and Resources
 Member of small team that negotiated with Home Office civil servants national probation service
Key Performance Indicators for submission to ministers for approval
 Co-ordinated and provided much of supporting information to Home Office civil servants for
three Public Expenditure Round (PES) processes regarding probation service financial needs.
 Regular information to Chief Probation Officers on a range of finance matters.
 Brought about closer co-operation with other relevant bodies on probation Finance matters

Comprehensive Spending Review
 Seconded to the Home Office as advisor to the Comprehensive Spending Review - a searching
report on how the government can get best value for money from the probation service.

British Quality Award assessor 2001 and 2002. One of a team of assessors who undertook a
detailed assessment using EEM criteria of a leading public sector organisation.
Assessor for the TNT Modernising Government Partnership Awards 2002 (assessed an award
winner).
