1.
Tell us about your school. For example, What age are the students? Location? Environment?
Atul Vidyalaya took its first steps in 1991 under the aegis of a Linguistic Minority Trust formally
known as Atul Vidyalaya Trust. The purpose of this initiative was to gift the society an institution
that imparted and enriched value based education.
Our school is affiliated to ‘The Council for the Indian School Certificate Examinations, New Delhi’,
which is an examining body recognized both nationally and internationally. Atul Vidyalaya (known
as ‘AV’) is unaided, co-educational and has English as the medium of instruction. Gujarati and Hindi
are taught as second and third languages. The total strength of the school is about 1105 students.
AV is located on a lush green campus of about 24 acres with a natural, serene ambience that
enhances the formal and in-formal learning processes. We have also developed a science park that
supports the philosophy of learning should be an enjoyable experience.
We marked numerous milestones and yet we have a long journey ahead of us. The vision that took
root 24 years ago has grown into a large banyan tree encompassing holistic vision of our trust.
Section C: Your Resources
TOP TIP!
To help you score high marks in questions 2-4, we strongly recommend carrying out a Resource
Assessment. You can find a Resource Assessment Template in Weekly Guide 2 and in the ‘Resources’
section of your school profile!
2.
What resources at your school could you use to start a business and how? E.g. ‘We have internet
at school and 3 computers so we could start an internet café.’ (2)
Our main resource is our students. It is said that “Charity begins at home”, so we will start our
Waste Paper Collector (WPC) business from our school students only. They will only ask their
parents to sell their waste papers to the AV_WPC team at a market rate. Collected Papers will be
stored in the school and it will be sold to the paper mill that is nearby. There is huge profit into it
once we will be able to collect waste paper in a bulk.
Even AV buys newspapers for the students from 1 to 12 standard. Those papers will be collected
along with the waste paper school whatever it will generate.
Teachers and other staff also sell their waste paper to AV_WPC team.

How could you use your school’s location as a business opportunity? E.g. ‘Our school is near a
tourist attraction, so we could sell handicrafts to local tourists.’ (2)
Our school is nearby Valsad City and Pardi where we are having lots of space available to collect and
store waste paper in a bulk. So, we will utilise it as our warehouse.
4.
How could you use your existing skills to start a business? E.g. ‘Six students have cooking skills, so
they could help other students to start a café.’ (2)
AV_WPC team will take session on their own to convince the parents initially and they are as
parents definitely support their wards.
Then our WPC team will go to the different schools and will conduct sessions regarding waste
management. They will convince and create channel to collect newspaper from those schools.

7.
How does your Final Business idea meet the People, Profit, Planet criteria? (6).
People: Managing waste paper is a problem for everyone. Finding “pastiwala” and even having
proper returs!!! Here AV_WPC will be like one point solution for this. Even with various activities to
spread awareness regarding saving paper, saving tree will also help our environment a lot.
Once they come to know that AV_WPC is going to use the profit for the environmental up
gradation even more and more people will provide their support.
Profit: We’re starting for the first time but we know that in a market all the waste paper collector
are giving Rs. 8/kg rate but when in a bulk you sell to paper factory you will get handsome
commission on it. So, we’re hoping for a good profit in this model.
Planet: As earned profit will be used to plant trees, spreading awareness to preserve and increase
environmental wealth, it will surely bring smile on the face of mother earth.
Section F: Start-up capital

Students went to survey inquiring prices offered by different waste paper collectors in
Valsad, Vapi, Pardi and Atul area. Then they inquired in paper industry also and took
permission that they can sell in the mill directly. But for that part sorry didn’t take photos as
at that time I was not aware about this part.
