The Sherwood 3/4 White Knights beat the solid Sunset White football team
18-6. The only thing these knights gave up all day was a quick (long) TD pass for
Sunset on the very first play. The Knights came back with three scores in the first
half. Lucas Christen returned a punt for a TD to start the Knights scoring. Strong
blocking paved the way for the other Knight TD's. The Knights welcomed back Reed
Joy in his second game back who helped lend his big body to opening holes. Anthony
Garrett's throws his first TD pass to Seth Bernhardt to continue his stellar QB play
this season. The Knights end the regular season 4-2 and gear up for the medal game
against Tigard Black!
Sherwood 3/4 Grey lost to a very good Lincoln White team on Saturday, 180. The Knights fought hard and played great defense but were not able to sustain
many drives on offense and were denied their 3rd victory of the season. Sherwood
Grey had many standouts on defense Saturday and none were bigger than Charlie
Bulfinch and Carter Atkins. Playing on the defensive line they were able to make
several key stops and held Lincoln’s ground game in check all day. At Hawk, Josh
Farner and Ethan Estes also stepped up and played big on Saturday coming up with
several big stops. In the secondary Reece Barnard, Colin Anderson, Brody Stevens,
Travis Harvey, Connor Cady and Lucas Voss played stellar defense as well. Jack
Agnew, Devin Delgado, Joey Buckner, Cole Emery, Josh Sjodin, Phil Resch and
Nick Hekker played well at LB, making Lincoln earn every yard they got. On the
offensive side of the ball, Colin Anderson, Nick Hekker, Phil Resch and Josh Milligan
played well also. Next Saturday Sherwood Grey will look to finish strong in their
Medal Game and finish the season on a high note.
Sherwood 3-4 Black ran into a bit of a buzz-saw this weekend and suffered
their first defeat of the season. Tualatin jumped out in front early and despite a
strong second half performance by the defense, Sherwood was unable to close the
gap. The offense moved the ball well in the third quarter, behind the terrific
rushing efforts of Ethan Kelley, Luke Wommack, and James Kuntz. The Knights
marched down the field , Kuntz punched it in from a yard out, and Jacob Reuter
added the PAT kick for Sherwood’s. A nice job of blocking by Mason Gardner, Jacob
Mussleman, Jadon Whitely, Jackson Barton, Jacob Schweitzer and Cameron Cedillo
was key in the drive. Defensively , Sherwood was strong up the middle. Depth at
nose guard, including Black night winner Liam Burgess, D-tackles Jakob McCreery,
Schweitzer, and the line-backing corps of Barton, Reuter and Cedillo helped to
contain Tualatin’s rushing between the tackles. Sherwood 3-4 Black fished the
regular season with an impressive 6 and 1 Record, and are looking forward to a
competitive medal game against Lincoln 3-4 White.
Sherwood 5/6 Cardinal Knights --
Taking on an opportunistic Beaverton
team with a flare for creating big plays, the Sherwood 5/6 Cardinal Knights showed
great heart in their efforts. Though the Cardinal Knights were on the short end of
the 14 -0 score, the team continued to make improvements. The Cardinal Knights
offense, led by quarterback Kevin Skurdahl gave valiant effort against a well
selected Beaverton team. Jordan Craig gave a 110% while running, despite running
on a broken foot. Jackson Davis gave the Sherwood Cardinal a spark of hope in the
fourth quarter while bring the ball down to the 15 yard line. On Defense, the
Cardinal Knights combined for 90 tackles a great team effort. At the end of the
game the winner is not always the one with the highest score, it’s the team that
learns to play with the most heart and to the best of their abilities.
The 5/6 Black Knights had a great first half and held on for a big win on
Saturday vs. Scapposse. The best thing about the game was it was a true team
effort with lots of Knights making big plays. The Knight offense was led by Sam
Criscola who had a great day with 172 yds rushing and a TD. Despite the less than
ideal conditions, the Knights passed the ball effectively as well with the highlight
being a 50 yd TD pass from Alex Tranquill to Zach Jenkins late in the first half.
Jordan Troccoli also made a nice catch to score a key TD as well. The outside runs
were set up by hard-running from Derec Church and Matt Seitz. KeyShawn Johnson
and Brandon Cole had some nice runs as well. One of the real keys to the game was
the defensive performance against a complex offense. The Knights followed the
game plan and pitched a shut-out in the first half thanks great play from our Hawks;
Criscola, Johnson and Cole. The linebackers played great as well with Church,
Troccoli, Seitz, and Sands recording multiple tackles as well. The defensive line
was active with Caleb Hansen, Colton Pfisthner, Charlie Pringle, Jacob Irish, Ethan
Stevens, and Tanner Schellhase all making multiple tackles. Wyatt Snyder,
Jenkins, Tranquill, Nathan Ross, and Caleb Silver all played great in the secondary,
with Jenkins making a nice pick in the first half.
The Sherwood 5/6 White Knights used a combined running and passing
attack Saturday afternoon to roll up big offensive numbers in their 35-0 rout of the
host, 5/6 Blue Canby Cougars. Coming off a loss Sherwood proved their metal
against a quality opponent. Led by 3 touchdowns by halfback Cade Wessels; one in
the air and two on the ground. The bulk of the carries went to fullback Kierin Noreen,
because three fullbacks were out injured this week for the Knights. Offensively this
was the breakout game for the passing attack of John Sandilands and Tristan Watts,
completing 100% of their throws. This is contributed to the much improved play of
the interior line Sergio Estella, Nick Garrison, Kellen Scroggins, Alec Valdez in his
corner position with 5 solo tackles and great coverage of the pass first Canby
offense. Others with great, breakout individual contributions of D were: Estella and
Johnson, this week’s “Black Knight”. As usual, the gang tackling was the theme of
the Defense and this lead to a shut out for the second time this season. Leading
tackler for the second week in a row was Nick Garrison. Defensively this was a
breakout game for individuals. Most notably, Jackson Travnicek, Will Newbery, Titus
Grabow, Jack Johnson, Justin Long, and Jarrett Joy and Tight Ends Scott Boyce and
Tristan Watts. Sherwood will be ending regular season play this week by hosting the
5/6 Black Scappoose Indians at 5:00pm in Sherwood.
Rain didn’t stop the JV Cardinal Knights on Saturday as they bested Beaverton JV
White, 20-6. After allowing a touchdown on the opening drive, the defense
stiffened up and shut down the Beaverton offense, including great tackling by
Robert Hunt, Bryce Aiello, and Brandon Gatlin. Offensively, the Knights were
ignited by Jacob Eisenbeiss’ 12 yard TD run, and Austin Shadbolts successful PAT.
Brandan Lovell scored on a 2 yard rush, and Shadbolt ran one in from 75 yards
back. Solid blocking was provided by this week’s Black Knight Logan Shelton. With
one season game remaining, the JV Cardinal Knights look forward to holding on to
their undefeated status as they travel to Southridge to take on JV Red.
Sherwood 34, Clackamas 0 - Once again the Sherwood Varsity Cardinal
Team came to play; they literally and figuratively battled a very big and physical
Clackamas Team. The entire team came together after multiple serious injuries to
players on the team to shut out Clackamas. The game started out on a positive note
for Sherwood with Justin Humphreys getting a quick safety on the first series of
offense for Clackamas. Mason Rivers rattled off a TD then added an extra point on a
broken extra point play. The defense of Saul Urzua, Jeremy Sather, Michael Stocker,
Connor Carlson, Justin Humphreys, Justin Meyer, Zak Taylor, Connor Dougall, Aidan
Giasson, Mason Rivers, Ryan Hobbs, Austin Chaffee-Poor, Derek Snyder, Tristan
Bishop, Fabrizio Villalpando, Jacob Vincent, Sean Scroggin, Matthew Galindo, Evan
Thomson, & Rich Hekker kept the pressure on all night. The ball would land in the
hands of the Sherwood offense with carries and TDs by Scroggin, Taylor & Rivers
from Schwarm & Hekker. Matthew Galindo powered into the end zone adding the
final extra point on the night for Sherwood. The Sherwood Team played a great
game under difficult circumstances. Congratulations to the entire Varsity Cardinal
Team: every single player has scored a point this season. Job well done!
