Biography
Ted Barczak brings nearly seventeen years of property-casualty insurance and
reinsurance experience to the class today. Ted was recently appointed vice
president and underwriting manager at CNA Re in Chicago, IL. Ted began his
reinsurance career at CNA Re in 1992 and has specialized in programs for
regional insurance carriers over the past decade. Prior to joining CNA Re, Ted
was a property underwriting specialist with CNA Insurance Company in the
Chicago branch office and began his insurance career as a commercial lines
underwriter in 1985 in the Chicago office for the Travelers. He has also earned
the Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter designation in 1992 and the
Associate in Reinsurance in 1996.
Ted is a graduate of the University of Illinois – Urbana-Champaign – where he
earned his Bachelor of Arts in Economics in the spring of 1985. He was an
active student while on campus including membership in the Marching Illini (1984
Rose Bowl Edition), Illinois Basketball Band (1985 NCAA Tournament Edition)
and the University Concert Band program.
Little did Ted know that after successfully completing all the property casualty
finance courses at the U of I (actually, there were just two classes offered) that
he would spend the next seventeen years in the insurance industry. When
recently asked about this achievement, Mr. Barczak was quick to quote his
favorite philosopher and poet, Homer:
“What can I say, it hasn’t been easy staying in this rut”.
