1 - Minutes Approved

The minutes of the meeting on 24 th September 2009 were approved. Agenda items were invited.

2 – Matters Arising not covered elsewhere & Actions from Minutes

The Council recorded its thanks to Martin and Norma Bone who undertook a huge amount of work to implement a successful Ceilidh. The Council recorded its thanks to Iain Morrice who organised a series of immensely enjoyable Bog and Burn and Torch Runs. The Council recorded its thanks to Tom White for organising the cross country team.

Anne volunteered to place in the newsletter a list of local hill running events to be supplied by Iain. Bob noted that the SAL site has an extensive list.

FT agreed to purchase 10 tabards as the stock for night runs is zero.

FT noted that Track on Thursdays had become very popular. Bob Turner is learning to be a POSE coach.

3 – Jog Leaders

It was resolved that others would be encouraged to undertake the Jog

Leaders course and that the existing leaders would be willing to start a new beginners course in ‘Spring’. Recruitment is normally achieved through word of mouth as posting flyers has achieved little in the past. Consequently, Bob agreed to ‘advertise’ this opportunity in the next C&BN article and to encourage members to advertise the opportunity.

The existing rota system maintained superbly by Janice continues to work well.

4 – Bog and Burn

It was resolved that IM should be requested to organise runs again on the last Sun of each month. Iain will try to organise this to be as inclusive as possible with e.g. two 6K loops.

Further to a discussion led by Keiran on arrangements for the Fife coastal run on the 28 th Feb, Members are encouraged to suggest other ‘unusual’ runs – despite the attractiveness of the environs of Balerno, there are other runs available such as Beecraigs and Livingstone. Where possible, we will try to avoid clash of events with these runs.

5 – Committee

Council reps are FT, NB, Iain and Tom. Nicky agreed to go to act as interface to PT.

The Council (which has no executive authority) will recommend to the

Committee that 1) a gazebo is needed for changing and storage at events and 2) two waterproof clipboards for recording times etc. are needed, 3) that the club subsidize hire of a minibus for those attending Arbroath event, 4) those winners of the ‘most improved award’ should receive either an event entry or free membership and 5) that more torches are required (in addition to Tabards).

6 – Wed night

People like to know in advance what is happening on a Wed night and Paul’s schedule has expired. He will be requested to produce a new schedule or put new dates on old schedule.

7 – Social Program

Gavin is to be requested to resurrect the proposed Games event (rounders etc) that was cancelled due to the light drizzle after the WOLH (note Norma is taking over from Gail for this year and next only in organising WOLH).

Tom volunteered to organize bowling.

Sarah Chamberlain and Paul Thompson are organising a Salsa night.

Anne suggested that a social run ending with a BBQ at the Boyles should be organised.

8 – Handicaps

Ian May suggested the following mix or short to long races as Handicaps:

Dunbar 10k - March

Chris Hoy 1/2 Marathon April

Best 5k Parkrun in May ( I suggest we have this in May to spread the events)

Mussleburgh 10k July

Best 5k Parkrun August

Scottish Gas 5K and 10K September

Jedburgh 1/2 Marathon October

Cross Country November

WOL Handicap August

9 – Any Other Business

A group is intending to run the 10 mile event in Amsterdam on 12 th Sept and all are welcome to join in for a fun weekend whether they want to run or not.

10 – Date of Next Meeting

The next meeting will be in 3 months or so in the Riccarton Arms.
