FACULTY REFERENCE FORM
STUDENT APPLICANT _________________________________________________
FACULTY MEMBER’S NAME AND DEPT. _________________________________
To the STUDENT: Please give this form to a faculty member who knows you well and is willing and available to fill
it out. Allow plenty of time to enable him/her to turn it in by 3:00 pm on Thursday, September 26, 2013.
To the FACULTY MEMBER: The Oberlin-in-London Program Chair and faculty directors would greatly appreciate
your confidential reference concerning this student applying for the program. Please evaluate the student’s
readiness to undertake the academic challenges of this program (contribution to class discussion, quality of oral
expression and written work, ability to conduct independent study, etc.). Equally important is your assessment of
the student’s ability to manage the personal demands of an intensive small-group program abroad (emotional
maturity, reliability and leadership, cooperation, tolerance, etc.). Any other observations relevant to the student’s
participation in the London Program would be welcome. Please be as candid and specific as you can. Please return
the completed form to the London Program office, King 105, by 3:00 pm on Thursday, September 26, 2013. It is
very important that the Faculty Reference Form be turned in on time. Also, it is very important that you turn in a
written reference; oral references can be helpful but a hard copy is needed for the files. If it is more convenient,
you may send your reference by e-mail to karen.barnes@oberlin.edu.
