(CSI) 3-Part Format, including MasterFormat, SectionFormat, and PageFormat, as described in The Project

Mock-Up: Provide a mock-up for evaluation of installation techniques and application workmanship.

1.05 DELIVERY, STORAGE, AND HANDLING
A.
Store products in manufacturer's unopened packaging until ready for installation.

Store and dispose of solvent-based materials, and materials used with solvent-based materials, in
accordance with requirements of local authorities having jurisdiction.
1.06 PROJECT CONDITIONS
A.
Maintain environmental conditions (temperature, humidity, and ventilation) within limits recommended
by manufacturer for optimum results. Do not install products under environmental conditions outside
manufacturer's absolute limits.
1.07 WARRANTY
A.
Product is warranted free of defects in material or workmanship.
B.
Product is warranted to perform the intended function within design limits.
PART 2 PRODUCTS
2.01 GENERAL
A.
Hazardous Location: An area where the possibility of explosion and fire is created by the presence of
flammable gases, vapors, dust, fibers or flyings. Provided wiring and installation of electrical fixtures to
comply with NEC Hazard Class indicated and as schedule on the drawings.
B.
Class I-Gas:
1.
Class I (NEC Section 500.5(B)): Those areas in which flammable gases or vapors may be present
in the air in sufficient quantities to be explosive or ignitable.
2.
Typical Class I Locations:
a.
Petroleum refineries, and gasoline storage and dispensing areas.
b.
Industrial firms that use flammable liquids in dip tanks for parts cleaning or other operations.
c.
Petrochemical companies that manufacture chemicals from gas and oil.
d.
Dry cleaning plants where vapors from cleaning fluids can be present.
e.
Companies that have spraying areas where they coat products with paint or plastics.
f.
Aircraft hangars and fuel serving areas.
g.
Utility gas plants and operations involving storage and handling of liquified petroleum gas or
natural gas.
C.
Class II-Dust:
3.
Class II (NEC Section 500.5(C)): Those areas made hazardous by the presence of combustible
dust.

Class III-Fibers:
1.
Class III (NEC 500.5(D)): Those areas in which there are easily ignitable fibers or flyings present,
due to type of material being handled, stored, or processed.
2.
Typical Class III Locations:
a.
Textile mills, cotton gins, cotton seed mills and flax processing plants.
b.
Any plant that shapes, pulverizes or cuts wood and creates sawdust or flyings.
c.
Fibers and flyings are not likely to be suspended in the air, but can collect around
machinery or on lighting fixtures and where heat, a spark or hot metal can ignite them.
E.
Division 1-Normally Hazardous:
1.
Division 1: Hazardous gases or dusts are present under normal operation conditions or during
frequent repair and maintenance activity.
2.
Groups A-B-C-D: Groups (NEC Section 500.6): The gases and vapors of Class I locations are
broken into four groups by the code A, B, C and D. These materials are grouped according to: the
ignition temperature of the substance, its explosion pressure and other flammable characteristics.
3.
Groups E-F-G: Class II—dust locations-groups E, F and G. These groups are classified according
to the ignition temperature and the conductivity of the hazardous substance.
F.
Division 2-Not Normally Hazardous: Hazardous gases or dusts are not present under normal operating
conditions.

PART 3 EXECUTION
3.01 REPARATION
A.
Preparation shall be done in accordance with manufacturer’s instructions.
3.02 INSTALLATION
A.
Install in accordance with the NEC and manufacturer’s printed instructions and manufacturer’s
installation training.
B.
Install lamps in each luminaire.
C.
Lighting fixtures: Set level, plumb, and square with ceilings and walls. Install lamps in each fixture.
D.
Suspended Lighting Fixture Support:
1.
Pendants and Rods: Where longer than 48 inches (1200 mm), brace to limit swinging.
2.
Stem-Mounted, Single-Unit Fixtures: Suspend with twin-stem hangers.
3.
Continuous Rows: Use tubing or stem for wiring at one point and tubing or rod for suspension for
each unit length of fixture chassis, including one at each end.
E.
Fasten luminaire to structural supports indicated.
1.
Use fastening methods and materials selected to resist seismic forces defined for the application
and approved by manufacturer.
