We provide a friendly and non-competitive environment for the learning and enjoyment of art activities. We offer innovative arts
programs that are exciting and creative and geared to the interests of individuals wanting to develop personal style. The classes are
practical and concept driven and each offer rich traditional and contemporary approaches to art making. Our workshops have an
emphasis on increasing the participant's awareness of creative options and accessing individual forms of expression. In this rich and
supportive environment practical skills paired with technical skills offer a wide variety of arts making approaches.

DRAWING CLASSES
An Introduction to Drawing Techniques and Materials
8 Weeks $269
Do you think you can't draw? Don't worry, everyone has to start at the beginning, and if you can write your name, you can draw. This course will support
students with little to no knowledge of drawing and help to build their confidence.These classes will show you that you can draw and will help you to
develop the technique to see as an artist sees. Line, tone, texture and form will be employed to produce drawings using various media and techniques.
This class introduces the fundamentals of drawing starting from how to measure proportions to design and perspective. You will develop skills through the
study of a range of subjects such as still life, architecture, plant, natural or manufactured objects. Students will be guided and encouraged to try different
techniques and methods of drawing as well as exploring composition, negative and positive space and colour to build skills that are essential in all aspects
of the production of art.This course is for complete beginners, as well as anyone who wants to review their skills.

Drawing on the Right Side of the Brain – for Beginners and Intermediate Students

This simple and effective program will teach anyone the basic skills of drawing. The aim of this approach is to enhance creativity and confidence. It is
designed to allow you to move on from previous disappointments in drawing and to enjoy applying new perceptual skills that allow you to draw well. Using
only paper, pencil, charcoal and your own focused commitment to relaxing into a new way of seeing and operating, you will learn to draw realistically. This
class is designed for those with little or no drawing training who believe that learning to draw well is only possible for people with ‘inborn talent’. You can
be a better artist than you have ever imagined, you just haven’t learned how to use your right brain! Find out how you can access that mode of brain
activity that deals with visual, perceptual thinking, creativity and intuition. The tuition is personalised, encouraging and focused on individual outcomes.

This is a dynamic drawing class focusing on the figure, observing fluidity, gesture, exploring a range of materials and expressive styles. Discover the
vitality and expressiveness of the human form and explore the drawing experience while observing the figure. . You will learn to draw the contours and
proportions of the human figure in an energetic and inspiring atmosphere. Experiment with a range of media to build up drawing skills, develop your

Learn to Accurately Draw and Paint the Portrait from Photos
8 Weeks $269
The process of drawing the portrait can be divided into three stages, contour - to create outlines, rendering and shading to accentuating details, and
contrast to create volume of the portrait. Using photographic references you will learn the correct way of depicting the portrait which includes the
fundamentals of anatomy, proportion, line and tone. This course is an intensive study of the human face from structure to expressive interpretation. Using
step-by-step exercises, those who are new to drawing portraits will develop an understanding of facial anatomy, the role of light sources and shade,
composition as well as learn a variety of technical approaches. Students who have successfully learned the drawing components will move onto painting
the portrait. This will focus on capturing the light in your painting by learning to see and understand the relationship of tonal value, proportion, composition,
colour mixing plus the recipe for mixing skin tones. Demonstrations will be an important ingredient of this course.

OIL PAINTING CLASSES
Simplifying Oils - An Introduction to Painting and Colour
8 Weeks $269
If you are looking for complicated techniques and fancy formulas, you won’t be interested in this class. This is one of the simplest, easiest and most
straight forward ways to paint a picture. Come and discover how to shake off the clutter and clear up the mystery of oil painting. This course will start by
introducing the student to the basic techniques used in oil painting. This is an important part of the painting process that many students don’t properly
understand. You will be guided through a series of painting exercises, beginning with colour mixing and understanding the colour wheel. Students will
work towards producing ‘finished’ paintings based on these theories and exercises. This class will save you hours of wasted time and paint. You will learn
methods of structuring the palette and mixing techniques, control of colour and identifying colours, properties of oil painting and the application of paint
and mediums. Students wanting to move on from the introduction to painting their own projects will be catered for with ongoing tuition.

Creating with Oils and Colour- A Simple Approach from Beginning to End
8 Weeks $269
A unique course intended for any painter, experienced or just beginning, who wants to fully understand oil painting. An excellent introduction to art
practice in representational painting with special emphasis on the use of light, tonal values and the subtleties of colour and colour mixing. The course will
answer many questions about different materials used in oil painting and how to structure your palette. Working from photos you will develop an
understanding of light and how to capture the illusion of light in oil painting. This course is designed to teach basic colour theory and the step by step
process of constructing a painting. You will learn how to get from a blank canvas to a final image efficiently with little confusion, as well as how to
confidently approach any colour mixture. A series of demonstrations held throughout the term will explain procedures designed to help you progress to
creative finished artworks. This is an excellent introductory course however, continuing or more advanced students will have the opportunity to enhance
their skills with ongoing tuition.

Discover your Creative Journey in Oil

This is an exciting oil painting class that will push you beyond the reproduction of an image to compose and compile an original artwork from conception to
completion. Take your paintings to a new level and learn to utilize all the tools at your disposal to help you to translate your ideas into finished artworks.
You will learn to work up a picture - starting with Reality and Imagination using photographs and drawings you will producing the right environment to
develop your ideas and a new way of creative thinking. Add colour theory, composition and design and the passage from planning, drafting and
composing, to painting, can be not only interesting and revealing but transformative. Use the world that is all around you to find the art that is within. Ken
Wadrop is well known in Perth artist. Ken's unique works evolve from work with the High Street Realists in the 70s and 80s to his current style. Ken’s
paintings are expressions of a seemingly realistic, but fictional world. Students will be encouraged to look at things with a fresh eye, to relish colour and to
build confidence by developing and putting into practice good technique.

Teaching the Skills and Versatility of Oils
8 Weeks $269
The focus of this class will be on the student's individual interests using photographic references to work from to produce highly individual and original
artworks. Learn about materials, composition and backgrounds, mixing colours, forming your subject, details and highlights. This course will centre on the
essential elements of painting and will teach students how to begin, compose, under-paint, develop colour and use glazing to add depth, and to finally
finish a painting. Students will learn what to look for when viewing subjects, and how to think in terms for warm/cool, transparent/opaque. You will be
taught to use the correct colours based on a more traditional palette and the colour wheel based on this palette. Nick’s work reveals his interest in
depicting light and the way light can temporarily reveal beauty in seemingly ordinary places and objects. His work is inspired by Western tradition, in
particular the works of the Italian painters of the Quattrocentro and the Flemish masters of the Dutch ‘Golden Age’. Nick will demonstrate various
techniques he employs to produce different effects. Nick’s techniques involve the use of glazing to create depth and atmospheric unity, applying a final
glaze over the entire picture to set all the elements within the picture at the same temperature to create beautiful finished artworks.

Exploring the Fundamentals and Master Oil Painting

This course provides an introduction to the rich traditions of oil painting. This course has been designed to encompass all aspects of creating a painting to
increase your knowledge of materials and techniques. Students will be encouraged to explore and understand tone, colour mixing and the use of light and
shadow in a professional manner. Working from photos, this course introduces you to the important elements and principles of design and composition.
You will develop an understanding of colour and how to capture the illusion of light in oil painting. You may apply this method to any painting including still
life, landscape, portraits and more. Under the guidance of an experienced teacher, students will also work towards producing paintings and are
encouraged to find their individual creative styles while you pursue your own projects. This class is perfect for beginners or students that are more
advanced and with ongoing tuition; students will have the opportunity to enhance their skills to create their own masterpieces.

landscape or any subject of your choice from photographic references in a relaxed friendly atmosphere. When the basic rules are studied and understood,
the natural progression takes a painter into evolving and developing their own individual style. Come and find your artistic self and create some great

Constructing the Portrait in Oils or Pastels from the Life Model
8 Weeks $289
If you have been intimidated by the idea of painting the figurative subject, or simply want to revisit the basics of painting portraits, this class is for you.
Explore the unique challenges and satisfying results you will achieve when you capture the likeness of a model. Portraiture combines two special skills:
the ability to work from observation and the capacity to allow the relationship between the painter and the sitter to evolve. A demonstration and discussion
by Drewfus will take place on the first day focussing on some of the important elements of portraiture. This will cover advice on the selection of colours
and the technical principles of mixing the portrait palette, proportions and the emotional status of models. This course will address composition, mediums,
flesh tones and the importance and dramatic use of light and shadow used in reproducing the portrait.You will learn topics such as the relationship of
clothing to the body and the variations of colours that make up the translucency of skin. Drewfus will offer simplified concepts to help the student build a
solid foundation in the fundamentals of portrait painting. Models will sit for two-three week sessions and one-two week session at the end.

Intermediate and Advanced Painting to Expand and Enhance skills (any medium)

This is a workshop for people who have learnt the fundamentals of painting and would like to take their artwork to the next level. Under the guidance of a
highly accomplished artist, you will be able to evolve according to your individual style and preferences to encourage your own artistic style and express
your creative self. You will be encouraged to confront and solve problems of composition, value, intensity, and pictorial dynamics and learn the
techniques that will enable you to affect other people's feelings and perceptions. This course is designed for students looking for new approaches or
searching for a deeper knowledge of the creative processes involved in artistry or for experienced painters who want to develop and define their personal
style. Students will select their own subject matter, process, technique and scale while they pursue their own projects. This course is suitable for students
with previous experience in oil painting who are interested in further developing technical skills and need help with technical aspects of their painting, or
just need to overcome any creative blocks you may be experiencing. You may work in oils, acrylics, watercolours or pastels.

Understand how to Create Inspirational Oil Paintings
8 Weeks $269
Discover how to take some of the mystery out of producing eye catching oil paintings. This course encompasses all aspects of creating a painting to
increase your knowledge of composition, materials, and glazing techniques. You will learn to paint complex scenes in a simplified, no fuss manner. This
course will help you develop and expand the understanding of colours (cool/warm) and the entire range of hues achievable from the primaries,
complementary colours and their compatibility. Painting utilising photographic reference of still-life, portraits, landscapes or whichever subject you wish
you will learn to create finished paintings and build confidence while learning to be creative. Ultimately it is all about giving student’s not just valuable
information, but an enjoyment that is long lasting. You will learn to explore different approaches from glazing through to impasto and design structures
which occur when creating both negative and positive areas. By the end of this course you will have an understanding of materials and a solid foundation
in painting. This class is suitable for students of all levels.

Creative Egg Tempera Painting from a Still Life
8 Weeks $269
In this course students will learn about the use and application of egg tempera working from a still life. Egg tempera is a distinctive traditional painting
technique noted for its clarity and colour, it is a semi opaque water soluble and permanent painting medium created from the yolk of an egg mixed with dry
powder pigment. It is a versatile medium and can be over painted with further applications of oil paint. Egg Tempera is quick drying, permanent and
creates glowing lasting luminosity and beautiful vibrant colour effects. During this course, students will learn some of the history of egg tempera and its
more contemporary uses. Students will learn how to prepare a variety of egg tempera mediums and how to prepare the gesso boards suitable for egg
tempera. They will be shown how to safely handle and apply the raw pigments and will be encouraged to explore the versatility, variety and speed of the
technique and how it can be used as a part of a mixed media process with oil painting and also casein, or simply on its own.

Capture the passion for Representational Acrylic
8 Weeks $269
Felicia is a realist, with a strong emphasis on colour and presentation. This is a great opportunity for you to experience the unique formal and technical
possibilities of acrylic painting. This course is aimed at students who are interested in developing their painting skills within the realistic, figurative acrylic
genre. Instruction will be given in colour, composition and painting techniques. Emphasis is on building confidence, technique, exploration of materials and
an ongoing focus on development of the student’s individual projects. Felicia will work with students on an individual basis guiding their techniques, colour
and form and offering her skills and insights to help you build your existing techniques and develop your own style. For the absolute beginners Felicia will
cover the basics of materials, safety, layout and how to start a painting and continue through to completion. More experienced students will learn about
advanced painting techniques and how to further develop and extend your experiences with painting and painting methods. Felicia’s artwork aims to
produce images that evoke tranquility and peace through quality work, colour, light and movement and themes.

Exciting Semi Representational Painting in Acrylics
8 Weeks $269
Creating new works of art is exciting, fun, challenging and spontaneous. This course will look at the medium of acrylic along with other mixed media
techniques such as layering and pouring to create interesting surface textures and new ways of interpreting the image in front you, whether that’s an idea
in your mind, a still life arrangement or a photographic reference. You will paint in a semi representational style encouraging some risk taking in supportive
environment. This course will also look at how to understand the dynamics of colour better and explore the endless possibilities of painting with acrylics.
Colour mixing and colour theory will be approached in a way that helps people understand how to use the information to make their paintings more
exciting. We will discuss, demonstrate and experiment with materials (paints, brushes, surfaces, colour), design and techniques to develop new ways of
thinking and discover fresh ways of finding inspiration. Students will be encouraged to find their unique, personal direction, transforming ordinary subjects
into dynamic works of art. Naomi’s passion for painting, wonderful application of bold colours, strong inspirational elements and exciting use of different
techniques are factors that have helped mould her paintings. Naomi is a successful contemporary artist with a career that spans over 30 years. Naomi is
equally comfortable with traditional scenes, through to a more contemporary blending of realism and Indigenous imagery.

Exploring Semi- Representational, Reality and Abstract Imagery in Acrylics

Sandy is a highly accomplished artist; her paintings have an underlying presence that evolved from immersing herself in the rugged reds of the landscape
and colour combinations of the ocean blues. Draw inspiration from nature and the environment to create images using acrylics, mediums and mixed
media blending elements of pattern and texture, the richness of strong, vivid colour combinations and individual interpretation. Discover a new self
exploration through abstract and semi abstract intuitive painting by exploring new techniques and becoming loose and free with your work. There will be
demonstrations and discussions on composition, light, tonal values, transparent paints, glazing, mixed media, colour and colour mixing. Have fun, learn
something new, build your confidence and overcome the fear of putting your mark on canvas in a relaxed environment, whether you are a beginner or an

Dynamic Abstract Painting - Layering: A Painting Tool

The course will be taught by Audrey Tulimiero Welch, an international artist who holds a Masters degree in the Visual Arts from the Art Institute of Boston
at Lesley University, Boston, USA. Welch’s work has been exhibited in the United States, Germany, Indonesia, Thailand, and Western Australia. Her
paintings have been collected by Google, Trump International Hotel as well as numerous Public Collections. The Toomey Tourell Gallery in San Francisco
represents her work and recently, Welch was an artist-in-residence at Guildford Grammar School. In this painting course students will be introduced to
technical and practical tools used in the development of dynamic contemporary painting. Technically, students will experiment with layering of materials
using acrylic paint, collage, and masking methods; as well as, inspiring transfer techniques. These methods will assist students of all levels to discover
their unique “voice” and visual approach in painting. Practically, we will discuss ideas about inspiration and how artists nurture the development of a theme
to sustain a body of work. Throughout the course we will looks at Australian and International artists who use “layering” as a primary strategy and
language in their paintings. Group demonstrations, discussion, and individual consultation will be offered to further enhance each students learning.

Create Exciting Contemporary Realism in Acrylics

This eight week course focuses on pushing the boundaries of realism by bending the “rules” in the use of colour, shape, line, composition and perspective.
We will look at creating edgy pieces of work that draw inspiration from everyday scenes and objects. There is a strong focus on individuality and finding
your own direction. We will draw inspiration from current and historical artists. You will gain insight into colour theory and colour mixing as well as gaining
an understanding of how paint “behaves” and will use this knowledge to create exciting pieces that capture the essence of a place, scene or experience.
The course has some structured exercises and some room for you to work of your own images.

An Introduction to Acrylics for Beginners

Want to paint but can’t get started? Haven’t painted since high school? Would love to have a go but too scared? Well this is definitely the class for you.
this is a structured course with a weekly plan to cover the basics of painting such as mixing colours, what makes a good composition, what is tone and in
addition we will cover some basic drawing skills. There is an air of mystery and intrigue that has long surrounded the art of color mixing. It is my intention
to help put an end to that. It will a fun and supportive environment and over the eight weeks you will finish at least 4 pieces of work and then be ready to
move on with some confidence to one of the other exciting classes offered at Claremont. The time is now……. just do it!

WATERCOLOUR PAINTING CLASSES
Simplify the Fundamental and Discover the Creative spirit of Watercolour Techniques
8 weeks $269
Carl is an impressionist painter with over 30 years experience as a professional artist and teacher. A popular Perth artist, his work is also represented in
collections around the world. While his work draws great inspiration from people, Carl's subjects vary over a broad range of situations and environments
and his work maintain a European feel with subtle lighting and atmospheric mood. Watercolours, when used correctly and without fear it is an
extraordinary medium with truly amazing qualities. Many people have a fear of watercolour because they have been led to believe that it is so difficult and
one only has one chance to get it right, this is simply not true and there are many ways of easing nervous people into the use of watercolour. Artists will be
asked to bring some prints and perhaps a visual diary to get started. Preliminary charcoal drawings and colour tonal washes are a great way to Iron out
potential problems. We will paint the traditional still life, sea and landscapes, street scenes and we will perhaps be able to introduce people, people in their
garden, in the street, in the pub. With infectious enthusiasm Carl gets down to teaching the basic techniques in a free, loose manner. Carl’s love of people,
quirky sense of humour and enjoyment of teaching makes him well suited to fully sharing his extensive skills with his students.

Watercolour Painting – Capture the Landscape using Photos

This workshop will prepare you with the fundamentals skills necessary for painting the landscape. Painting landscapes are fascinating and rewarding for
the watercolour painter who is ready to explore new subjects. You will be guided through the techniques, composition and design principles and explore
some creative technique and experimental methods while working in the studio environment from photos. Appropriate demonstrations will feature various
aspects of the landscape showing a wide variety of topics from inner city streetscapes to tranquil seascapes and beaches, rural landscapes and
everywhere in between. Each day will present new scenes and challenges and you will learn how to capture the essence of sceneries you admire and
produce a finished artwork in one sitting. Students are required to bring suitable reference material.

SCULPTURE CLASSES
Sculpture of the Portrait from the Life model
8 Weeks $285
Robert has extensive experience in working with portraits; he will guide students through the process of constructing a portrait in clay from the life model.
This class is designed to develop study the head to portray the character of your subject. Through the exploration of clay, you will learn to view the head
from all angles creating sculptures that are three dimensional. Anatomy, form and proportions of the human head, neck and shoulders will be observed
and interpreted. We will take the students though the steps of building the head study in clay, looking at the fundamentals of proportion, scale and basic
modeling tools and techniques. You will develop the construction of representational pieces using traditional skills. Working from a model, we will
concentrate on the fundamentals: the features, simple construction, and expressive composition of sculpture.There are underlying fundamentals in all
image making that better learned through anatomy than by any other means. This class is designed to be a no stress experience, so come prepared to
learn new things and enjoy yourself!
