also focuses on the introduction to contrast media, its application, contraindication and administration for
radiographic studies. The theory is correlated to the appropriate body systems.
Required Text:
Frank, Eugene D.; Long, Bruce W.; Smith, Barbara J; Merrill’s Atlas of Radiographic Positioning &
Procedures, 12th edition, Vol I & II., Mosby.

3.
Produce diagnostic radiographs of each area studied.
4.
Critique radiographic quality and identify pertinent anatomy.
5.
Explain the types, principles, applications and contraindications of contrast media.
6.
Successfully complete simulated competencies in all procedures studied.
Student Expectations:
1.
Complete all reading and other assignments PRIOR to class. Any assignments not turned in by the
due date will be result in an incomplete (“I”) grade.
2.
Participate in classroom/laboratory exercises. Refrain from group conversations that are not
subject related. Inappropriate behavior will not be tolerated.
3.
Attend ALL classes and exercise individual responsibility for missed classwork. After two
absences a student will be counseled. Lateness of more than 15 minutes will be recorded as an
absence. Lateness less than 15 minutes will be recorded as 3 latenesses = 1 absence.
4.
In the event of an absence on a test date, the "make-up" exam will be available in the Success
Center for a period of one (1) week. If, in extenuating circumstances, the student is unable to
complete the exam during that time frame, the student must have instructor approval for an
extension. There will be a 10% reduction of the grade for any make up exam. Make up exams are
modified at the discretion of the instructor. Only two (2) make up exams will be allowed per
student, per semester.
Grading System:
The grade for this course will be determined as follows:
Tests = 75%
*Final Exam = 25%
A = 92-100
B = 85- 87
C = 75- 79
A- = 90 – 91
B- = 83 – 84
B+ = 88 - 89
C+ = 80 - 82
*If a student fails the final exam, the student will take a second final within a week. Any grade on
the second final above 75% will be recorded as 75% when determining the course grade for the
semester. If a student fails the second final exam, a grade of “F” will be recorded for that course.
Class absences will be deducted from the course grade as follows:
.5 for each absence and .25 for each lateness or early departure.
Failure to complete any of the course assignments will result in an “I” incomplete grade.
Note: As with all competencies, 90% is the passing grade. Students failing the laboratory competencies
will repeat the competencies until a 90% accuracy is achieved. Students must complete all laboratory
competencies prior to the end of the semester or an Incomplete grade will be submitted.
