EOMETRY

COURSE DESCRIPTION In Accelerated Geometry, students will study plane geometry (two dimensional shapes) through the study of polygons, circles, and lines. Also, students will study solid geometry (three dimensional shapes) through the study of surface area and volume. Students will develop mathematical proofs and techniques in reasoning.

Accelerated Geometry will thoroughly cover concepts and objectives at a fast pace and a deep level. Students will have an enriched curriculum through the use of applications, projects, and technology. Also, we will occasionally be utilizing a technique called “flipping the curriculum” where the students will be required to watch tutorial videos for homework. They will spend most of their class periods completing tasks, working on assignments, and having more time to get help on material.

ESSENTIAL

UNDERSTANDINGS

MATERIALS NEEDED

Basic operations are used in solving multi-step problems.

The properties of shapes can help determine measurements.

Appropriate formulas will be used to solve geometric problems.

Symbols and properties provide the basis for advanced concepts.

Equations and graphs are used to represent real-life situations.

Problems can be solved using different methods of logical reasoning.

Please bring the following items to class everyday:

* Accelerated Geometry notebook, folder, and textbook

* Scientific Calculator (especially on quiz/test days)

* Red pens

* Pencils

Please keep these supplies at home:

Protractor Colored Pencils

Ruler Compass

GRADED ACTIVITIES

A variety of homework, chapter quizzes, and chapter tests will be used to calculate grades.

Please keep all notes arranged by lesson in your Accelerated Geometry notebook. Homework should be kept in your notebook, immediately following the notes for that lesson. Your folder will organize all of your handouts

Homework is usually assigned every day and will be corrected in class the next day.

PLEASE keep checking Infinite Campus!

Grades and assignments will be updated daily ! It is a GREAT way to check on your child’s progress!

2014-15

GRADING

Quarter Grades:

Homework = 10% Quizzes = 35% Tests = 55%

Semester Grades:

The report card grade from each quarter (45%) and the semester exam (10%) will be used

MAKE UP PROCEDURES Talk to Mr. Petre the day you come back from any absence from class

Follow the handbook guidelines regarding make-up work
