40 REARING & 41 WEANED CALVES
10.30 am – Auctioneer: Jon Pullin
A relatively short entry of calves on offer today and of varied quality selling
to another strong spring trade.
Friesian (4): A very smart bull calf from K D Sheridan topped at £140, others
£20-£40 all going to rear.
Native Breeds (7): Best Hereford bulls topped at £235 for K D Sheridan,
£192 for J Millard. A single Hereford heifer £100 for B J & D Reeves.
Angus bulls topped at £160 and £140 heifers to £114 all from M/s Malswick
Farms.
Continentals (28): A cracking Charolais bull from D J Spratt topped at £272,
Simmentals from F D J Bennett, Cromhall made £262, medium blues sold to
£205 and £173 with small Continental bulls £120-£150. Limousin to £214
from W J Tinney. Heifer trade very strong £270 for Simmental from J
Millard best Simmental generally £148 - £180, blues topped at £240 from M/s
Malswick £195 for A F & P J Little, £180 and £195 again for Malswick
Farms.
SPECIAL SALE OF WEANED CALVES
10.30 am – Auctioneer: Ben Baggott
A very pleasing entry for the May Special Sale with over 40 calves forward
selling to a very strong trade. A December 07 British Blue heifer made £322
for Malcolm Tucker.
M/s P T Hinds sold British Blue steers (4 months) at £370 per head their
similar aged heifers made £320, Messrs Malswick Farms consigned a strong
run of Blue calves their September calves topped at £355 and £325.
November born blue steers made £305, Hereford steers and a Simmental steer
£295 (October born). Smart Limousin and Angus heifers of similar ages
made £278.
Messrs T S F Baker consigned December born weaned Hereford heifers
selling at £302 per head, December and January heifers £280 per head.

Short supply very strong demand. A Simmental x Cow (03) and her Charolais
x heifer calf (Jan 08) £790 for J Herbert, 2 Simmental x Cows (020 with
Simmental x bull calve (Feb 08) to £712 and £695 for Peter Amesbury. A
served Simmental x heifer from Mrs Gainey made £580 (in calf to Angus).
429 STORE CATTLE
11.30 am - Auctioneer: Jon Pullin & Arthur White
Generally quality was not as high as in recent weeks, on consequence
averages were lower with steers £487 and heifers £468. The lesser quality
steers with the grass growing were a very good trade and the best saw
exceptionally strong bidding.
Cattle that were short of time before 30 months were still wanted but of
course at less per kg. Outliers still at a premium per kg, top price £950 for
Angus steer from B M H Pert and £748 for Simmental x heifer from George
Hall. Bulls £755 for Limousin from James Simmons
Among the large consignments were Charolais cross steers and heifers from
John Herbert selling to £528 (July 07) (160) for steers with others £470 (Sept
07) (174) and heifers of £445 (July 07)(137).
24 from Jim Adams made to £585 (April 07) (120) and £580 (120) for
Simmental x steers and £492 (Mar 07)(105) and Limousin heifers £520 (Mar
07) (126).

Numbers falling away as the season draws to a close but many lambs meeting
a very strong trade with keen demand from the 7 buyers present. The
handyweight lambs traded best upwards of 147 ppkg topping at 166 and 157
ppkg for 35-37kg hoggs from Alan Grindle. The medium lambs sold to
173ppkg for 52 kg lambs from H & S Rogers Farming Ltd and topped for
43kg at 186ppkg for C & T Shaw. In the super heavyweight category 55.5kg
lambs from T & S Pain, Tortworth made 144 ppkg the heaviest forward at
60kg made 128 ppkg for M/s J & G Hamilton.

Good trade for the small entry forward. 36.5 kg lambs from A Scott &
Partners made 215ppkg £78.50, 186ppkg for 40.5 kg lambs from Chris
Benson. Heavier lambs, 47.5 kg from E C Wilcox made 147 ppkg.

A very good entry of pigs forward today for the monthly pig sale, with an
excellent run of porker and cutter pigs. . A good entry of sows sold to a fast
trade topping at £150 for W Middle. Boars sold to an improved trade topping
at £125 from the same home.
Best well fleshed sows £145 plus, 2nd quality sows £100+, Plainer sows
between £60 - £80, with feeding sorts £40 - £50
A very good show of fat pigs sold to a solid trade with a fresh face buying.
An excellent run of large white x G.O.S from the Oakdean Partnership sold
well topping at £70 with others from the same home £64.
M C Wright sold to £69 (welsh x)
M/s M F & H Windell sold to £70 (large white)
One pen of Saddleback weaners sold to keen bidding selling for £24.

A shorter entry met a tremendous trade for all types on offer. Simmental cows
topped at 123p pkg 710 kg for Tim Bellamy, Friesians to 96 ppkg for B J Ford.
Best cattle traded 90p plus to 123 ppkg for cows. Some very smart steers from
Rob Breakspear made 141 ppkg 590 kg for south Devon. A super run of
Simmental steers from George Hall 130-137p, MRI 129, Hereford 128, Friesian
123 and Sussex 120 all from Rob Breakspear. A run of finishing Hereford steers
87-89p from Mrs H M Innes. Overage heifers to 156 from Mr R Carter, Blonde to
135 for C G Denton.

The first poultry sale was held at Cirencester today selling to a huge crowd of
naerly 400 people. An excellent entry in all departments sold well with some
buyers leaving empty handed.
80 lots of sitting eggs sold to a very fast trade with all breeds and types in demand.
Highlights were:
Guinea Fowl @ £9.20 / doz, French Wheaten Marans @ £15.80 / doz, Maran @
£20 for 15 eggs, Wellsummers @ £10 / doz, Buff Orpington @ £14.50 / doz,

70 cages of poultry sold to spirited bidding, with demand strong right till the end.

240 Holstein Friesians
Comprising the Genuine Dispersal Sale of the entire Commercial NMR recorded
herd of 110 cows, 46 in-calf or recently served heifers and 84 Maiden heifers and
heifer calves. The herd currently averages 8164 litres at 3.74% bf, 3.24% pr with a
rolling cell count average 233. The herd is fed a simple grass and maize silage
based diet with straights to include maize, gluten, Soya and Minerals. The herd is
young (75 first to third calvers) and is predominantly an autumn calving herd with
78 calving August to December. The herd is closed and TB tested clear on 7 th
April. Genus sires form the backbone of this modern milky herd with youngstock
sires including Wallace, Westminster, Sinatra and Melody. Service sires Nansen,
Dragon, Jammer and Sirius.
