This document explains how we spend our Pupil Premium Funding to make our school vision a
reality for all young people.
For children entitled to free school meals, children in care, children of parents in the armed forces,
the school receives the pupil premium. For 2013-14 this will be £900 for pupils on free school meals
& children in care.
Children on role at the annual census who have been on free school meals in the last 6 years will
also gain extra funding for the school.
Priority One
Securing Success for All Young People
When pupils enter Glascote Heath Primary we ensure we know and understand the starting points
for their academic progress. We gain valuable information from their pre-schools and additionally we
carry out several important baseline assessments.
The pupil premium will be spent on ensuring that all pupils are making progress in the key skills
needed to succeed at Glascote Heath Primary and ensure they are properly prepared for the next
stage of their education.
The most important skills are;
 Reading
 Writing (including spelling)
 Use of Number.
Without these skills pupils will not reach their potential.
For pupils who enter the school with numeracy ages well below their chronological age we deliver a
personalised programme of “catch up” to help them improve on this vital skill. The Glascote Counts
programme is based on regular, hands on, fun intensive small group and one to one sessions with an
experienced teacher.
Alongside this we want to encourage pupils to read for pleasure. Ensuring that both young people
and their parents have access to high quality stimulating reading materials is a priority. Some of our
money is spent resourcing our library, having a school librarian to support children as they choose
books, ensuring all children are supported to use the library effectively.
Within the curriculum we pay for additional staffing which helps support specific children in specific
year groups. From Easter two teachers will support year 1, year 2 and year 5 children. This will be
through small group teaching and intervention programmes over the summer term. We will look at
pupil’s achievement at the start of the process and at the end so that we can ensure the children
have made accelerated progress.
Throughout their time at Glascote Heath Primary School, we will intervene to support pupils who fall
behind in these core skills. This will be done through interventions such as:


Small group interventions
One to One Tuition ( both in class and out of class)
In recent years, we have found this particularly effective in helping pupils gain the skills and
confidence to succeed.
Ensuring Equality of Access to the Curriculum
A key aspect of our ethos at Glascote Heath Primary is our belief that we need to develop
memorable learning experiences. This includes increasing the range of curriculum trips and visits for
example the cinema , We also believe that all pupils benefit greatly from a residential experience.
Our enrichment programme is extensive and inclusive. The pupil premium will be used to support
pupils whose families are on low incomes to access all of this programme.
Similarly whilst our Year 6 residential week at Standon Bowers has been designed to be very cost
effective we understand that for some pupils this still could be a barrier and pupil premium money
can be used to support children who would not normally be able to experience the experience.
A key part of our mission statement focuses on developing the talents of the pupils. We believe that
talents such as sport music dance drama will only develop into a lifelong passion by providing a high
quality extended curriculum. As well as a wide range of very popular after school clubs and Wake
and Shake clubs before school, we are extending our use of sports clubs to fencing in the Spring
Term 2013 and to Dodge ball, Tag Rugby in the autumn term 2013.
The pupil premium will also help all pupils access this curriculum and help pupils discover their
talents.
Supporting Parents
Bringing up children is never an easy time. The additional stresses provided by financial worries will
also impact on this. We believe that providing high quality support to parents of children who are
finding it difficult to progress at school can impact greatly on their success at school. We want to
provide regular structured meetings where parents can discuss their concerns and jointly identify
strategies which can help pupils succeed at school and at home. Our Family Support worker works
closely with parents to support them through the difficult times, as well as the good ones!
