Verb Chart
Use today’s journal entry.
Give the students a blank piece of paper and have them fold it into
thirds the long way.
Have students title the columns as follows:
1. First column write number of words in sentence
2. Second column write number of verbs in sentence
3. Third column write verbs used
Have students look at their journal entry and have them fill in the
chart beginning with the first sentence.
1. count every word in each sentence.
2. count every verb used in each sentence.
3. go back and identify the verb or verbs in each sentence.
Upon completion, students will look at what they wrote. They
must then show how the verbs can be modified and if they are all
in the same tense.
Now have students do this with the selection from the chapter.
