SUMMER SOLSTICE CELEBRATION GUIDELINES
Our mission statement:
Summer Solstice Celebration is a community organization that celebrates life through art by
encouraging participation in the arts through events and education.
These guidelines are not intended to stifle your creativity, but to create a safe and hospitable
atmosphere for all participants. Solstice has, in the past, had problems with a small number of
participants dressing and performing acts in a public forum that have made it difficult to receive
funding and/or necessary permitting for our event. The viability of Solstice depends upon your
cooperation by observing these guidelines:
1. As an organization that receives public and private funding, we are a community
event open to all ages. Our artwork must be appropriate for all ages and abilities. We
do not discriminate in our employment practices, volunteer opportunities, or delivery of
programs and services on the basis or race, color, religion, gender, national origin,
ancestry, age, medical condition, disability, veteran status, marital status, sexual
orientation or any other characteristic protected by law.
2.
Our workshop, parade, festival, and evening event are drug and alcohol free.
3.
Solstice artwork cannot represent physical harm to any human being. The
representation of blood (fake or otherwise), dominance/violence and/or sadomasochistic
behavior is not appropriate for our parade and therefore not permitted. No whips, guns,
knives, or weapons of any kind, or props intended to represent a weapon of any kind,
are allowed in the parade. All props must be safe and not pose a risk to our participants
or the parade spectators.
4.
Registration is required for participation in the parade and workshop.
5.
Colorful, innovative artistic expression is celebrated. Ensembles may not
repeat the same concept from year to year.
6.
Neither written words, nor symbols or logos are allowed in the parade.
7.
No motorized vehicles, excepting wheelchairs.
8.
Although it may be warm, nudity is prohibited. If we can see through it; you are
nude.
9.
No live animals are allowed in the workshop or parade, excepting guide dogs.
10.
No skateboards are allowed in the parade.
11.
No fireworks, explosives, or other pyrotechnics.
12.
For safety reasons, shoes are required in the workshop and parade, and we
recommend you carry water in the parade and use sunblock.
13.
Nothing may be thrown, squirted or given away from the parade to the
spectators.
14.
No gas generators to power your float, music or anything else.
15.
Solstice is an environmentally conscious organization and strives to use
recyclable products and materials whenever possible. No oil-based or enamel products
at the workshop. Please use water-based paint only.
16.
We are a litter free event. Please help by picking up after yourself and your
friends!
17.
All children 12 years of age and under who participate in the workshop or parade
must have adult supervision at all times.
18.
Battery-powered amplifiers may be used to project music only.
