SUNDAY SCHOOL CLASSES
FELLOWSHIP – led by Bill Wiemers. The class is studying “1st and 2nd
Thessalonians”. New members and visitors are welcome to join in. The class meets
in Fellow Ship Hall, located near the Sanctuary.
JOHN WESLEY – led by Barbara Hudson. The Class is studying a series of lessons
based on the book the Gospel of John and the book "Just Give Me Jesus" by Anne
Graham Lotz.
NOMADS’ – Nomads class will be studying the full armor of God’. Everyone is
invited to join us in this 8 week study by Dr. David Jeremiah called “Spiritual
Warfare: Terms of Engagement”. This study is based on Ephesians 6:10-18. Dr.
Jeremiah will explain the nature of spiritual warfare and describe how to use each
piece of the armor God has provided for us. As Christians we have already won the
battle through Christ; however we should know Satan’s strategies and the reality of
the war we are in.
SEEKERS – The Seekers invite you to join us on our exploration of prayer based on
the book Before Amen by Max Lucado. We will have a DVD lesson followed by
much discussion and much laughter. Everyone is welcome to join us.
YOUTH – Join us in the Youth Room Sunday mornings from 9:40-10:40 am as we
study the book of Philippians. Snack and discussions available.
CHILDREN – Preschool Class, K-2nd, and 3rd-5th Grade. “The Gospel Project for
Kids”, a Bible study that presents the story of redemption through Jesus.
All classrooms are accessed from the hallway by the church office.

Pastoral Prayer / The Lord’s Prayer – All
Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name.
Thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread.
And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those
Who trespass against us.
And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.
For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever. Amen

Our Mission Statement
The mission of the Congregation of the First United Methodist Church is to
continue to be a committed fellowship of disciples sharing the love of God
through Jesus Christ and furnishing a place of Christian worship, programs,
services and facilities for its members and the people of the Johnson City
area.
Teddy Bear Ministry
You are invited to hold a bear during joys and concerns and then take
it and give it to someone who needs a word of encouragement, healing, or uplifting. We ask that you do not take one for yourself. We also welcome bears
that you would like to donate. They don’t have to be new.
We are able to clean most “old” bears.
BOW #478
Holy and awesome God, we stand in your presence filled with regret for
our many sins and failings.
Though there is greatness in us, and a deep longing for goodness, we have
often denied our better selves and refused to hear your voice calling us to
rise to the full height of our humanity.
For there is weakness in us, as well as strength.
At times we choose to walk in darkness, our vision obscured.
We do not care to look within, and we are unwilling to look beyond at
those who need our help.
O God, we are too weak to walk unaided.
Be with us as a strong and wise friend, and teach us to walk by the light
of your truth.
Words of Assurance
The Lord God is merciful and gracious, endlessly patient, loving, and true,
showing mercy to thousands, forgiving iniquity, transgression, and sin, and
granting pardon. Amen.
(JEWISH PRAYER FOR FORGIVENESS, U.S.A., 20TH CENT.)

Joys and Concerns
Lord’s Prayer (see prayer in 8:30 Service Order of Worship)
(You are invited, if you would like, to hold your neighbors hand during the
Lord’s Prayer.)
Offering/Doxology
He got up and gave orders to the wind, and he said to the lake, “Silence! Be
still!” The wind settled down and there was a great calm. 40 Jesus asked them,
“Why are you frightened? Don’t you have faith yet?”
39
Overcome with awe, they said to each other, “Who then is this? Even the
wind and the sea obey him!”

Affirmation of Faith
Gale-force winds arose, and waves crashed against the boat so that the boat
was swamped. 38 But Jesus was in the rear of the boat, sleeping on a pillow.
They woke him up and said, “Teacher, don’t you care that we’re drowning?”
Family Pool Party
We would like to invite everyone to celebrate the end of this fun week of VBS
and Camp on Sunday, June 28th at the Johnson City Pool from 7:00-9:00 pm.
Join us for swimming, fellowship and ice cream sundaes.
