Civic Trust
Scarecrow Festival
Salisbury Woodland
Blackpool Civic Trust are once again running their annual competition of scarecrows,
generously supported by local businesses, charities, voluntary groups and schools, helping
to raise money and awareness of the work of the Civic Trust in the area and promote local
businesses in the process.
Last year’s event was extremely well attended, with hundreds of visitors over the weekend
and created a fun (and friendly!) competition between Volunteer Involving Organisations to
create the best scarecrow! We had several Olympic teams create by schools, chefs, a bar
tender, famous people, scary monsters, fishermen, fairy tale characters and much more. It
made for a fantastic and slightly surreal walk through the woods!

promote your organisation contact:

July 4th,
5th & 6th
WordPool Festival
Stanley Park (Sat 6th
July)
Blackpool Council is currently in the process of planning Word pool, Blackpool's annual
festival of words.
The theme for this year is "tiny worlds" and will be present throughout the festival over the
4th, 5th and 6th of July, with dedicated work happening in schools between 24th and 28th
June.
On Saturday 6th July there will be a family day taking place at Stanley Park from 1pm to
4pm with a range of activities taking place all around the theme of tiny worlds. The concept
is that as people move around the park they move from world to world taking part in different
activities around that theme.
There are two ways your organisation can get involved in the family day...
1. Create a tiny world activity for families to take part in on the day. Some of the
suggested stories which you could base your activity on are James & the Giant
Peach, BFG, Alice in wonderland, the Borrowers etc.
2. Provide volunteers who can be available on the day to help guide people around the
park and generally make sure people are heading in the right direction.
