October 19th 2013 Board Meeting Minutes
Meeting was called to Order by President Lorraine Jones at 2:05 pm
Roll call was taken by Secretary Krissy Matterson, In attendance were:
Cathy Smith, Traci Barnes, Jessica Bishop, Dawn Marten, Bob Kahl,
Helen Knaupp, Sarah Watson, Cara Jansen, Jack Ooley, Krissy
Matterson, Miranda Bowlin, Lisa Sink, Bill Jones, Lorraine Jones, and
Katie Marten.
Krissy Matterson read the previous meeting minutes
Dawn Marten asked for a correction from savings to checking account in
the treasurer’s report. Cathy Smith made a motion to accept with once
change, Lisa Sink seconded, motion passed unanimously
Treasurer’s Report was read by Dawn Marten,
Ending balance as of October 19th is $2938.61
Cathy Smith made a motion to accept as read, Krissy Matterson
seconded, motion passed unanimously
Vice President’s report, Jessica Bishop wants us to know that she is
prepping the 4-H kids to help in parades for the coming year and had
nothing else to report at this time.
Lisa Sink made a motion to accept the report, Lorraine Jones seconded,
motion passed unanimously
Public Relations report, Traci Barnes spoke about our outing with he
Mustangs to Bella Organic farm on Sauvie Island. She said the owners
loved having us there and spoke of the thousands of folks who came and
pet the horses, tons of questions were answered about adoption and
ownership. Traci would like to see our club do more of these outings in
the future as they are always good to get the Mustangs out there as
lovable family horses.
Krissy Matterson made a motion to accept the report, Lisa Sink
seconded, motion passed unanimously
Membership report, Dawn Marten says we now have 66 total
households, 2 new in October.
Lisa Sink made a motion to accept the report, Miranda Bowlin seconded,
motion passed unanimously
2014 Washington and Albany Expos, Dawn spoke about the upcoming
expos and what will be expected of the horses and folks who come to
participate in them. Lorraine says she feels we should keep the bar pretty
high as these expos are huge exposure for changing people’s mindsets
about mustangs. Jessica brought up the idea of possibly having an all
youth showing at one of the expos. Discussion ensued and no decision
was made one way or the other.
Expo try-outs are set for November 17th at 11 am at the Jefferson arena,
there will be a $5 haul in fee for use of the arena per horse.
A list of qualifications will be mailed out asap by Dawn Marten.
The first Expo practice will be held on Dec. 14th at Krissy’s arena in
Gaston, Immediately following the What Now clinic at 12 noon.
The second Expo practice will be held January 11th at the Albany Expo
and Fairgrounds. There will be a $5 haul in fee per horse.
The Third Expo Practice will be held Feb. 1st at Krissy’s arena at 11 am

Krissy Matterson seconded, motion passed unanimously.
It was brought up that we have an open Board position and that Miranda
Bowlin would like to talk to the club about herself as she has an interest
in stepping up onto the board.
Miranda talked about herself and her love of Mustangs and A Motion
was made by Lisa Sink to place Miranda in our open Board position,
Cathy Smith Seconded and motion Passed unanimously.
Christmas Wreaths, Traci Barnes spoke about the idea of using a
company who charges $7.95 per wreath and we can sell them for $25
dollars each. She also spoke about John Henry offering his supplies, but
we would have to make ourselves. Most showed an interest in purchasing
the wreaths and Traci will check on that further and email us with the
details. Traci said the company also offers trees and will get us more info
on this as well.
Lisa Sink made a motion to table until we have more info, motion passed
unanimously
Horse Show 2014, Krissy Matterson spoke about setting the date with
the fairgrounds in McMinnville for July 12, and mentioned the idea of
making this a 2 day show since we are only holding one, everyone loved
that idea, She also stated that she has tentatively held Julie Singer as the
judge for these days.
Lisa Sink made a motion to set out show date for 2014 as July 12th and
13th and to hire Julie Singer as the judge for both days. Cathy Smith
seconded, motion passed unanimously.
Sarah Watson spoke about feeling like we did not need so many
highpoints and could draw the same amount of participation with less
money spent, she also mentioned the idea of a Buckle show or series, she
says the word “Buckle always draws tons of riders. Everyone loved this
idea, and Krissy Matterson said she will check into donations or cost for
these and get back to us.
Lisa Sink spoke about a possible show/mustang event in Chehalis
Washington in late September or early October showcasing the
mustangs and giving us another show to add to a series.
She will be checking into this further and getting back to the club with
more details.
Raffle Horse, Dawn Marten spoke of wanting to keep the original raffle
horse “Willy” but that Krissy Matterson is offering the club to use her 2
year old Mustang Million Horse “Baxter”. He is a 2 year old Black,
Coyote Lakes HMA gelding with a blaze and 2 hind socks. He competed
really well at the Mustang Million in Texas. Dawn Marten spoke of his
qualification for the 2014 Mustang Million Futurity in Texas, So if we
use him, we will need to wait to raffle him either at that time or after. All
agreed that would be best. Krissy spoke about wanting to be his trainer
for the Raffle horse, as well as she would like to compete on him at the
futurity in Texas, Jessica asked that we use Robert’s rule of order and be
sure to change the wording and make a motion about changing trainers
as she had previously been chosen.
Lisa Sink made a motion to use Baxter as the club Raffle horse and to
change the wording to make Krissy Matterson the trainer for the Raffle
Horse. Cathy Smith Seconded, motion passed unanimously.
Expo Decorations, Krissy Matterson spoke about some of our Expo
decorations needing repair and that we need to update our booth
decorations. Lorraine Jones made a motion to make a committee to
handle the Expo Decorations, Lisa Sink Seconded, motion passed
unanimously.
Expo Decoration Committee is Traci Barnes, Krissy Matterson, Jack
Ooley, and Jessica Bishop.
Parades, Lorraine spoke about expectations for parade riders and horses
and that all horses in the Grand Floral must meet the 3 parade or 2
parade and one expo requirement. Traci suggested that folks need to
somehow earn the right to ride in the Grand Floral Parade, as we have
had too many who never show up unless it is to enjoy the Parades and fun
parts. Everyone Agreed, this will be discussed further in the future
meetings.
Veteran’s Day Parade, Lorraine says there is info on the staging area
online and that it is easy to find.
Yearly Meeting, The Yearly meeting date is set for February 8th at Noon,
it will be held at Canby Grand Central Station in Canby Oregon.
Membership Thank You’s, Lorraine Jones suggested that we need to
come up with something new this year to send out for memberships.
Helen Knaupp suggested either window stickers or Bumper Stickers,
Krissy said she will look these up for us and get some prices and ideas
and get back to the club. Cathy Smith says she would love new bumper
stickers.
Western/ Cowboy Dressage, Lorraine Jones spoke about her recent
experience at a Cowboy Dressage clinic and she really enjoyed it and feels
that many of our members would as well. She suggested looking up the
local Oregon chapter and try it out.
Meeting was adjourned at 4:15 pm by President Lorraine Jones
