The Institute Charles Sadron (formerly Centre de Recherche sur les Macromolécules) is a
research institute founded in 1954 and run by the French Centre National de la Recherche
Scientifique (CNRS)). It houses about 200 scientists, students and technical staff. It is devoted to
fundamental (mainly) and applied research on polymers.
Research interests:
1. Structure and morphology of biopolymers: determination of the structure of various
polymers, polypeptides and fibrous proteins: Silk I, Polyglycine I, poly(D-L peptides), Poly(Lhydroxyproline), etc...
2. Crystal structure, morphology, phase transitions, crystallization and melting of
synthetic polymers. Mostly technichnologically relevant polymers (e.g. polyethylene, isotactic and
syndiotactic polypropylene, polyesters and polyamides, polylactides) but also more exotic ones.
3. Major investigation techniques: electron microscopy and electron diffraction, atomic
force microscopy, modeling by conformational and packing energy analysis.
