Clare dominate the podium at the National Stillwater Lifesaving
Championships in the UL Arena Pool
Competition was intense in the University of Limerick Pool for the National
Stillwater Lifesaving Championships, where almost 200 of Ireland’s top lifeguards
guaranteed exciting competition throughout the day.
The closest competition was between Clare and Waterford in the team events,
culminating in a very close finish in the Manikin relay where Clare edged ahead
as the overall victors. A strong contingent from Belfast Olympia Lifesaving Club
was always in contention.
Best individual performances were demonstrated with 11 new National records
achieved with which is very encouraging for the sport generally.

The events presented an entertaining and exciting day of sport designed to test
the lifesaving skills, fitness and endurance of the country’s top and aspiring
lifeguards. John Leech CEO of Irish Water Safety said “We are delighted to see
such a healthy entry with Ireland’s premier Lifeguards setting a high standard
early in the year, which bodes well for them when the best of this 200 compete at
the European Championships later this year
