Outdoor First Aid – Student Gear List
This course will run regardless of the weather, so be prepared for the possibility of
cold/wet weather and extended periods outside! Pack like you did for PHSE104 Camp – no
cotton, lots of layers, and water/windproof shell layers for top and bottom. Typically there
is a night-time scenario on this course (regardless of weather).
CLOTHING & EQUIPMENT NEEDS
 Pack (ideally minimum 60 litres)
 Pack liner
 Sleeping bag
 Closed cell foam mat/thermarest
 Head Lamp
 Boots or other solid outdoor footwear
Shell layer…
 Quality waterproof rain jacket with hood
 Over-trousers (windproof)
Underlayer…
 Underwear
 2x Polypro or wool long johns
 2x Wool socks
 2x Polypro or wool tee shirts
 Polypro or wool long sleeve shirt
Insulation layer…
 Mid weight fleece/wool pants
 Mid weight fleece/wool top
 Heavier fleece/wool jersey
 Shorts (not cotton)
 Polypro/wool mittens or gloves
 Fleece/wool balaclava or hat
TOILET GEAR
 Teeth cleaning gear
 Personal hygiene needs
 Microfibre towel (optional)
 Personal first aid kit & medication
EATING STUFF
 Large plastic plate/bowl, knife, fork, spoon
 Plastic mug or cup
 Drink bottle (personal)
