‘Quick Wins’ for Greening Government Purchasing
With the recent publication of the Energy White Paper on sustainable procurement by government, the pressing issue is
to make it easy for public sector customers to locate and buy energy efficient products. Certain product areas have
been acknowledged as ‘Quick Wins’ – where particular standards should be met immediately.

* Due to volumes of paper products purchased by Government, WRAP have recommended that purchase of recycled
paper products is phased in over a number of years to avoid market distortion, e.g. 35% recycled content by weight by
2003/4 rising to 75% by 2006/7. Targets will be developed as part of the Framework for Sustainable Development on
the Government Estate.
