Week 7: Using the Land:
- Outline land uses in Australia, including the
following: urban areas, farming, mining, industry,
tourism, national parks
- Describe each land use and give specific examples
Students can create a tourist pamphlet or

Week 8: Jewels within the Earth
- Define: sustainable development, economic

- Describe the rehabilitation process used by mining
companies such as BHP when they have finished
mining in one area. Is it adequate?

Week 9: Who will Save the Earth?
- Discuss the issue of conservation
- Why is protecting the environment so important?

Week 10: Conservation Groups
- Research various conservation groups found, eg:
WWF, Greenpeace, Zoo Peru etc
- Discuss why these organisations have come about.
What do they represent? What are they protesting or
fighting for?
- Are their methods reasonable?
- Is there some urgency to address the problem of
pollution etc?
Activities:
 Students must research one conservation group and
inform class about this group
 Students need to construct a poster for this activity
Test: Students are to complete a term test that
covers the topic studied
