PRESS RELEASE
29 February 2008
Songs of Praise coming to Truro Cathedral
The ever-popular BBC1 programme Songs of Praise, now in
its 47th year, is coming to Cornwall in May. Ticket Application
forms for the general public are now available.
Truro Cathedral is going to host the flagship religious broadcast
programme on Sunday 11th and Monday 12th May this year, to
record two programmes, one that will be broadcast on 29th June
2008 and the other on 1st February 2009. The programme, which
regularly attracts 4m viewers, is the longest running religious
television programme in the world.
Canon Perran Gay, Precentor and Head of Worship, is looking
forward to the event, “It is a number of years since the programme
last came from the Cathedral and we are delighted to host it this
year. We would advise that if people would like to come, they need
to apply for tickets as soon as possible.”
People wishing to come to the broadcast will need to commit to
coming to both days in May, the 11th and the 12th. To obtain your
free tickets people will need to pick up an application form from the
Cathedral or the Cathedral Office. The completed application form
then needs to be returned to the BBC in Manchester before Friday
28th March. Because of the likely high demand, tickets cannot be
guaranteed.
