Film Critique of the Urinary System
AP Urinary Tract
 The symphysis pubis, hepatic, and renal shadows should be included
 Asymmetry of the iliac crests and ischial spines indicate rotation of the pelvis
 A time marker indicating post-injection time should be present on film
AP Collimated Renals
 The symphysis pubis, hepatic, and renal shadows, and approximately 1 inch of the
superior borders of the iliac crests should be included
 Asymmetry of the iliac crests and lower ribs indicates rotation
AP Oblique Urinary Tract
 Both kidneys and the symphysis pubis should be visualized
 The elevated kidney should be in profile
 The ureter closest to the film should be free of superimposition of the spine
AP Urinary Bladder
 The entire bladder and proximal urethra should be visualized above the pubic
bones
 The bladder should be appropriately penetrated with short-scale contrast
 Asymmetry of the obturator foramen indicates rotation of the pelvis
 The sacrum should be straight and centered to the film
AP Oblique Urinary Bladder
 The entire bladder and proximal urethra should be visualized above the pubic
bones
 The bladder should be appropriately penetrated with short-scale contrast
 The elevated femoral head should not superimpose the bladder
