Utilizing the humanistic psychology of Alfred Adler, course emphasis will be on the
following:
An overview of the theory
The general psychodynamics of people labeled mentally ill
The Adlerian view of psychosis, neurosis, and personality disorders
Techniques used to work with clients
Use of the Lifestyle Assessment with clients
The interpretation of early recollections
Emphasis on schizophrenia and the purpose it serves
Lectures, discussion and practice will be the format. Much of Adler’s work is found in
modern-day cognitive models. This presentation will take you back to the source and teach
you a humane, cogent, common-sense, practical model for dealing with patients.
