MOTHER – ANNA CLINKSCALES
1. Was your mother introverted or extroverted?
She was extroverted, very smart, good cook, good mother, when mother went away rarely for
missionary meetings, Dad catered to us.
Dad had a vulcanizer in his office and he made plates, he was a dentist.
He married at around age 40, big difference in their ages but they made it work.
2. Did your mother have any special hobbies or crafts?
She made dresses, Frances always got hand me downs because she was the youngest.
Mother was a leader in women’s group at church. Studied the Bible.
Good cook, made 4-5 loaves of bread every Wednesday
Had a big yard with fruit trees and roses.
3. What church did your childhood family attend?
Baptist Church whole life. Church built a new building. Sister Ann taught piano. Frances and
Ann played for the church together 35 years until Ann died in 1975. Frances used to sing and
play publicly for school graduations until they got a band. Now she plays piano for the church
and daughter-in-law, Brenda, Mike’s wife plays the organ. Frances still plays piano for funerals.
4. Anna’s sister, Fleurie:
Fleurie used to show up at our door sometimes. Beauford and Frances Stanley drove her home
a couple times.
FATHER – FOSTER CLINKSCALES
5. Dad was from South Carolina. Got tired of working in the hot cotton fields with mosquitoes. His
family had a 900 acre plantation with a circular drive and shrubbery, 14 room house, double
upstairs, swing on porch, looked like Gone with the Wind. Slave cabins around the back. The
slaves didn’t want to leave when it came time to free them. Dad came North up to Kentucky
looking for a place with hills and valleys and a place to raise a family. Settled in Williamstown,
youngest of 12 children. Never knew any of them, except met a few cousins. Found the
cemetery where his family was buried and his church, Little River Baptist Church.

BLANCHET GRANDPARENTS:
7. Was your Grandma Angeline Carter Blanchet introverted or extroverted?
She was introverted. We always walked but she never got out. Rare that anybody took a car.
She lived a rather lonely life. Think she died of consumption. She was bed ridden for about two
years.
8. What interests did she have?
Don’t know. They lived very meagerly. She wanted the best for the three girls. She saw they got
extra training. They called it elocution to get up and talk correctly. Think mother took a few
piano lessons.
9. Did you live close to your grandparents, the Blanchet’s? Were you able to walk to their house?
They lived a mile and a half from where Frances lives now. They lived near the railroad and
Lovey sat on the porch and counted the railroad cars. All he liked to do was fox hunting. Every
time Frances went over to visit there was a fox in the barrel in the yard.
There are several Blanchet’s buried in the Williamstown Cemetry.
Mount Blanc was named after our family. His great grandmother was the first woman to climb
the mountain in France.

A gentleman that owned a funeral home in town was getting in his 80s and he was looking for
some young fellow to take over the business and possibly buy it if he liked it. He had tried
several young men. Beauford loved people and was very kind to older people and was a natural
and he took to the man and worked for him for two to three years. Started dating Frances at
that time. He came to her church and was baptized. Frances was working for her brother-inlaw, Dr. Kinsey’s, sister Anna’s husband. She worked near the drug store and that’s where she
