The Ghost Teacher
My name is Mike. I’m a pupil at West Hill Junior High. Our school
is very old and some people say that a ghost lives there.
Last week a strange old man came into our classroom. He was
wearing a tall, black hat and a long, black coat. His name was Mr.
Brown. He gave each of us a very old book.
Mr Brown: Good morning! I am your new teacher. Turn to page
thirty in your books. What do you see in the picture?
Susan:
it’s a very old telephone.
Mr. Brown: Do you know who invented the telephone?
Susan:
Alexander Graham Bell invented it.
Mr. Brown: You are right! Mr. Bell is my friend.
Susan:
But Alexander Graham Bell is dead! He died a long
time ago.
Mr. Brown: That’s not true! I saw him yesterday.
Mr. Brown was a strange teacher. Alexander Graham Bell invented
the telephone over one hundred years ago.
After school I went back into the classroom to get the book from
my desk. Mr. Brown was there. He was reading a newspaper. The
date on the newspaper was February 19, 1876. I read the headline
on the front page: “Teacher From West Hill School Is Missing”
I thought that was very strange, so I went to the library. I wanted a
book on the history of West Hill School. The librarian gave me the
book and I found a very interesting story. It said, “On February 19,
1876 Mr. Brown, a teacher from West Hill School, disappeared.
Nobody knows what happened to him.”
There was a picture of Mr. Brown in the
book! He was wearing the same black hat
and long, black coat!
I ran back to the classroom to speak to Mr.
Brown. He wasn’t there. We never saw him
again. Now I know who the ghost is.
