CASTERTON
Market wrap – 15/1/10
Prices peaked at 176 cents a kilogram at Elders Casterton’s annual feature weaner heifer
sale today – the last in a big week of heifer sales in the Western District.
Stock & Land store market analyst Don Story, who has been at all the Western District
sales, said prices generally traded in a tight trading range of 163-171c – back about 5c or
$15 a head off Thursday’s red hot heifer market.
Top money at Casterton of 176c was paid for a line of Hereford heifers offered by the
McClure family’s Mooree partnership at Harrow and knocked down to Elders Holbrook,
NSW, on account of Marc Greening’s Injemira Herefords at Holbrook, who was active in
the market earlier in the week.
The calves will be joined and offered at Injemira’s annual sale.
Angus prices topped at 172c for a pen of 19 heifers, 302kg, offered by The Gums and
knocked down to Garrison feedlot, Swan Hill.
