Ethics in the Age of Social Media and
Electronic Medical Records
Target Audience
Program Description
In the age of various forms of social media,
boundaries that exist between clients and
clinicians are becoming much more ambiguous.
In response this ever changing phenomenon,
this training will address ethical considerations
related to dual and multiple relationship
considerations when utilizing various forms of
social media. Moreover, ethical considerations
related to privacy and confidentiality when
utilizing electronic medical records will be
examined. The presentation will discuss the
Code of Ethics for Psychologists, Social
Workers, and Professional Counselors related to
conflicts of interest and client records.
Speaker
Corey Beauford, LICSW received his MSW
from Howard University. He has years of
experience in clinical supervision, HIV / AIDS,
Co Occurring Disorders, and Domestic Violence.
Mr. Beauford is also the Founder and President
of Inspired Consulting Group, and Instructor with
the University of Maryland School of Social
Work and the NASW DC Metro Programs
Committee Chair. He is also a training
consultant for the American Psychological
Association. Mr. Beauford has extensive
knowledge and experience working with social
workers and ethical practice through his
various work and consultant roles.
Cost: Free
Registration is limited to Eastpointe staff and
their providers.
This workshop will be beneficial for psychologists,
clinicians, therapists, counselors, social workers,
marriage and family therapists, substance abuse
counselors, and all interested others.
Credits
Contact Hours: 4.0
Credit will be awarded to participants who attend
100% of the program. SR-AHEC adheres to
NAADAC Education Provider Guidelines Provider
#843 (Substance Abuse Credit). The program will
provide 4.0 contact hours (category A) continuing
education credit to NC Psychologists.
No partial credit will be given. Individuals arriving 15
minutes or more after the starting time will not
receive credit.
Objectives
Upon conclusion of this program participants
should be able to:
 Discuss the professional code of ethics for
Psychologists, Social Workers, and
Professional Counselors.
 Describe the impact that social media has
on professional relationships with client;
 Discuss boundary violations that can
possibly occur on various forms of social
media.
 Discuss privacy and confidentiality
concerns when using electronic and / or
automated medical records.
