TIME Magazine Person or Event of the Revolution
DUE DATE: Tuesday, October 16, 2012
Your Task: It is September 3, 1783 and the Treaty of Paris has just been signed, signifying the end of the
American War for Independence. You are a member of the staff for TIME Magazine and have been
instructed by your Editor-in-chief (me) to research and write the cover story package (with your 3 team
members) on the most important person and event of the American Revolution.
Timeline: (note: subject to change, but this is what I have thus far)
 Thursday, October 11:
Assignment distributed. Library.
 Friday, October 12:
Work and research time in the Library/Computer Lab.
 Monday, October 15:
Work and research time in the Library/Computer Lab.
 Tuesday, October16.
Project due. Presentation of project to class. Review.
 Wednesday, October 17:
NO CLASSES. National Testing Day.
 Thursday, October 18:
Test, Day I
 Friday, October 19:
Test, Day II
Requirements:
As a group:
 Choose one person AND one event from the Revolution off the list attached and sign up on my list.
(No, you may not cover the same person/event as someone else in the class.)
Your cover story package needs the following (each member chooses one):




One article on a person
One article on an event
One letter to the editor in response to the selection of your most significant person.
One letter to the editor in response to the selection of your most significant event.
Also, the cover story package must include (all group members are responsible for this):
 Title of Magazine (with appropriate date)
 Pictures of both the person and event involved in the stories and appropriate label for illustration
(Can be an actual picture or painting, or one you illustrate yourself.)

Select an Editor: Choose an editor who will edit all articles, so he/she should have some grammar
skilllzzs! (The editor does not do the political cartoon or ads, but is responsible for editing all of the
articles and letters to the editor!)
Each of the other three group members chooses one of the following creative items:
 ONE political cartoon you have illustrated yourself (in color) commenting on a controversial
issue/event/person of the Revolution.
 TWO advertisements (in color) for products that would have been a hot commodity during the
Revolution. (Hint: think about some of the Tax Acts we’ve studied!)
All articles must have:
 Story title, date (remember, it’s 1783), and byline (author’s name-YOU).
 An article supporting the premise that your person is the most significant person of the Revolution.
Answer why this person was chosen, how he/she affected the outcome of the Revolution and
convince the rest of us that you’re right. (George Washington was the most significant and
important person of the American Revolution because…) Must be at least 300 words in length.
Grammar and spelling, as well as organization, will count.

 Any sources used on your assignments should be on a single Works Cited page attached to the
back of the poster board. It should be divided by article titles and the references that go with each
separate article (you can use easybib.com).
 Entire project should be completed on one poster board.
