WHAT’S NEW AT THE UQL CYBERSCHOOL
Welcome back to another school year. We hope you enjoy reading our first
Cyberschool newsletter for 2014.

Operation War Diary brings together original First World War documents from The
National Archives, the historical expertise of IWM and the power of the Zooniverse
community.
Important news for UQL Cyberschool
Free student membership
Free library membership is available to all Year 11/12 secondary students, allowing
them to borrow eight items for 28 days with one renewal. Membership forms are
available online and can be found on our website at:
https://www.library.uq.edu.au/services-for/borrowing-application-form
Following the online registration, an authorisation form is required to be signed by the
principal and returned to Cyberschool before the application can be finalised.
(Membership only allows borrowing of print resources (books), not access to online resources.
Students and the general public are free to visit UQ and avail themselves of the online
resources that are available on-site. Log on to any computer as a libguest and access those
resources that have ‘walk-in’ access.)
Bring your class to visit UQ
The Cyberschool offers five types of visits, including classes and guided tours.
Libraries available to visit on the St Lucia campus include: Social Sciences and
Humanities Library (SSAH); Law Library; Architecture and Music Library (ARMUS); and
the Engineering and Sciences Library (DHESL).
Once you provide us with your task sheet, we will prepare a tailored research lesson
and direct students in locating the resources

PRODUCT UPDATES
Staff Package Consisting of nine databases, this package offers the most complete
collection of full-text reference resources available for school nurses, speech & language
specialists, technical/MIS staff, teachers/administrators, school librarians, theatre
departments, psychologists & counsellors, social services staff, and physical
educators/athletic departments.
The Staff Package includes the following databases:
• CINAHL with Full Text (for school nurses)
• Communication & Mass Media Complete (for speech/language specialists)
• Computers & Applied Sciences Complete (for technical/MIS staff)
• Education Research Complete (for teachers & administrators)
• International Bibliography of Theatre & Dance with Full Text (for theatre departments)
• LISTA with Full Text (for school librarians)
• Psychology & Behavioral Sciences Collection (for school psychologists & counsellors)
• SocINDEX with Full Text (for social services staff)
• SPORTDiscus with Full Text (for physical educators/athletic departments)
On Demand Media (ERC)
A platform that provides access to TV, Radio and Newspaper content:
News - includes TV news and newspaper coverage for select News Limited publications.
Articles are available online for both the print editions and also the website edition of each
title. A list of newspaper titles currently available is attached.
TV Programs - database includes all documentary programming plus all Australian
produced programs, so shows such as The Footy Show and Big Brother alongside David
Attenborough documentaries. Any program not available through streaming is able to be
ordered as a DVD copy.
AdRegister – portal showcases new advertisements daily from across Australia and more
than 60 countries worldwide.
ABIX – 100 word newspaper summaries
Research – A selection of Roy Morgan Research Reports
Collections - allows for institutions to upload their own content, making On Demand Media
a hub of information.
Oxford Dictionaries Pro has evolved into the new OxfordDictionaries.com, with
faster searching and accessibility across mobile platforms.
Oxford Scholarship Online - 70 titles across Mathematics, Biology, and Physics modules
have been added to Oxford Scholarship Online, covering a diverse range of subjects from
evolutionary biology, to atomic physics, and educational mathematics.
Oxford Reference - new Reference Library titles, including the Grove Dictionary of American
Music (2nd ed.) are now available on Oxford Reference.

WHAT’S NEW AT THE UQL CYBERSCHOOL
Dynamic Learning Online is continuing to add content to their World War I & Gallipoli
Database , and will be uploading an additional documentary on WW I and Gallipoli in
late February. The History & Reference Library Database covers Australian and World
History and includes some Introductory WW I information.
If a school subscribes to both databases, a 20% overall discount will be given.

ALL NEW LIBGUIDES
Keep an eye out for our Cyberschool LibGuides. The first one, for senior secondary
students, is located at http://guides.library.uq.edu.au/cyberschool-students - we also
have one on the way for teachers.
They contain lists of free resources for secondary school students including websites,
databases and eBooks, reviewed for inclusion by teacher librarians.

The tentative date for our 2014 Professional Development Seminar is Friday 25 July. The
day will focus on talks by guest speakers and will also incorporate some database training.
