Lancashire Archery Association

Junior Newsletter February 2011

I have been pleased to see some new faces at the squad sessions this winter. I hope those that have attended have found the sessions useful in developing their archery. My thanks go to the members of the Lancashire Coaching group who have once again supported the sessions.

Following the last Newsletter, I am now looking for juniors who would be interested in representing the county at our match against Cheshire which will, as usual, be held in Warrington.

The full team is made up of 4 boy and 4 girl recurves, 2 boy and 2 girl compounds and 1 boy and 1 girl longbow. The Lancashire committee have agreed to fund entry fees for up to 16 juniors (full team plus 2 reserve places) at the Bowmen of Warrington Junior FITA star. This year it will be held on 24 th April (Easter Sunday.) It’s usually a good shoot and a good opportunity to meet juniors from other counties or to renew friendships with those you have me previously. In the past couple of years we have struggled to field a full team so please let me know if you are interested in being included.

In June Pete Galbraith will once again be asking for juniors interested in shooting for the

Northern Counties against East Midlands. This match is held in Wetherby. Again, let me know, and send me some scores if you are interested and I will make sure your details are passed on.

Orrell Archers have once again agreed to host the Lancashire Junior Championships at Wigan

RUFC. The last couple of years we have had glorious weather and some excellent performances from the Lancashire juniors. Please remember this is your county championships and there are lots of awards to be won. The entry form is attached to this Newsletter.

There are also opportunities to represent the county at the Junior National Outdoor

Championships in July (team selected by scores on the day) and at the inter-counties match in

October. I will be sending out forms for score submissions and expressions of interest in shooting at the inter-counties match towards the end of the summer. After this the team will be selected with the assistance of Craig Hobin (County Coaching Organiser.) This year it will be held at

Assheton bowmen’s ground in Lancashire.
