Description
G.B. Queen Victoria continued
206 1840 2d blue (LA) pl. 1 with 4 very good margins & black MC (+ v. tip of
adjacent MC; uncommon). At Est., hard to find a more clean & sound SG5.
207 1840 2d pale blue (BB) pl.1 with 4 even margins all round and a beautiful,
crisp ¾ -full red MC. A competitively-priced SG6, for this super condition.
208 1840 2d blue (ME) with 4 margins & lovely part-Town pmk for Dorchester
(SG5h, Stc£4,500), small nick & thin repaired by hinge remains – still nice.
209 1840 2d blue (LI) with 1½ margins but nicely cancelled with 1844-type of
numeral pmk (157, Calne), rare on these 1st Blues. SG5c, Stc £1,700.
210 1858 2d blue, (JJ?, centred E), pl. 9, in UMM condition, (scarce for QV !)
211 1869 2d blue (IT), pl.13, a fresh UMM marginal (with part-inscription) and
well-centred! Inconspicuous horiz. crease+gum wrinkle, otherwise stunning.
212 1854-62 1d ‘Stars’ (shades & papers of mostly perf. 14) showing various
single & duplex provincial pmks & a few better cancels on solicitor’s mail,
(so office damaged) but closer study/preparation may provide useful pieces.
213 1858-79 1d plates collection, good to f.u., complete (-77) through to a dam-aged pl. 225, but pl. 219, 224 etc. are sound, (+ some nice numeral pmks).
214 1858-79 1d reds, a page of them, between pl.85 and 211, Av. to f.u. with
some clear numeral pmks, retail between .50p & £5 each.
215 1870 ½d rose ‘bantams’ complete set of 15 plates MM or LMM, therefore
quite spellbinding, incl. pl. 9 (centred sl. S, best centering on pl. 11 & 15),
most have good perfs., fresh appearance & crack-free gum (pl.19 some). So,
how often does this opportunity come along? Stc £8K+, Retail £2½K~ Wow.
216 Follow that? Here is the 1870 ½d ‘bantam’ set of 15 plates complete again,
used, (5 x c.d.s, incl. pl. 9; mostly all f.u.). Pl.9 is centred sl.W (best centering
on pl. 12 & 6), perfs. mostly good. Stc £1,250+. Another great chance this…
217 1873-80 4d vermilion pl. 15, SG152, horiz. pair (PD-PE) with full Glasgow
duplex cancel over both i.e. numeral 159 + c.d.s. Av.to g.u. pair, Stc £900+
218 1878 10/- greenish-grey (pl.1, IG), a f.u.copy of this majestic high val. with
neat, central, London District office machine cancel. Good perfs. all round,
centred sl. E. but a good-looking SG128, Stc £2,800 & Retail well over £1K.
219 1878 £1 brown-lilac (pl.1, EH), a f.u. copy with AU.14. 82 London c.d.s.&
orange Reg. crayon line. A mighty stamp, even with a hint of a blunter SW
corner perf. & centering sl. E. Otherwise of fine colour, & Stc £4,800.
220 1878 £1 brown-lilac (IE), another SG129, used with blurry (parcel?) cancel,
couple of perfs. with a hint of trimming & centering sl.E., but this is a scarce
high value (retailing around £1k), so Est. seems realistic…..and alluring!?
221 1880-83 4d grey-brown (HJ) pl.17 f.u. with Tewkesbury c.d.s.. SG160.
222 1880-81 ‘Provisional’ set of 5 to 5d indigo (SG165-169), FMM or LMM &
really rather pleasant! The 5d is best centred (& LMM) &, given the typical
retail of £400+ (Stc £1,200), this is an exceptional opportunity. (See next lot)
223 The two shades in the 1880-81 provisional issue, here offered together MM,
the ½d deep green, SG164, LMM (v.light toning) & 2d deep rose, SG168a,
(hinge remains, but well centred). Useful finding these 2 together? Stc£345.
224 1880-81 5d indigo, SG109, good used with part sq. circle pmk. Stc £110.
225 1881 2½d blue pl.22, MM, some sl. toning & centred sl. SW, Stc £350.
226 1883-84 2/6 lilac, SG178 lightly MM+good perfs. Fresh & lovely. Stc£500.
