Level 1

Further research was needed in order for me to fully understand my topic. My opinion may not been fully formed. I required further details and support in order to convince others of my opinion.

My assertion was unsupported and lacked enough research to prove my point(s). My written speech required organization of my ideas in order to improve the clarity of my thoughts.

I have not included all elements of the A.R.E. model in my written product. I have written in a simplistic manner and need to work towards convincing my audience. Further editing for spelling, punctuation, grammar, clarity, coherence and/or interest are needed.

Level 2

I understand my topic and have included minimal reasonings to match the assertions in my writing. I require some further research in order to fully form and support my opinion of the content.

I have generated sufficient ideas to support my assertion through some research. I have organized my written ideas but some points are disjointed and require

‘reworking’ to add clarity to my speech.

I have demonstrated my research by including all some elements of the A.R.E. model in my written product; I have used some creative language to convince my audience. Some further editing for spelling, punctuation, grammar and/or clarity, coherence and interest are needed.

Level 3

I understand the topic, the assertions and reasonings of my research. I was able to combine a variety of different ideas from my research in order to form and support my opinion of the content

I have successfully generated ideas to support my assertion through focused, thorough research which I presented in an organized speech. I have analysed the evidence and provided sufficient support and detail to prove my points clearly.

I have successfully demonstrated my research through effective

A.R.E.’s in my written product; I have used innovative language to convince my audience; I have successfully edited most of my work for content and conventions.

I have written critically about the topic and was able to defend my point of view successfully; I was able to provide successful rebuttals to the opposing team due to my extensive research on the topic.

Level 4

I fully understand the topic, the assertions and reasonings of my research. I was able to expertly combine ideas from a variety of research sources to inform and fully support the development of a firm opinion.

I have successfully generated many critical ideas which successfully support my assertion by completing thorough research.

My speech is organized in a way that enhances the effectiveness of my speech. The analysis of my evidence clearly supports my assertion.
