PHOTOGRAPHY
Members & Students
General Rules for All Photo Contest Entries w/a few exceptions:
 Photographers must be dues-paying members of active GFWC clubs. NEW- there is ONE student category:
Grades 9-12.
 Each photo (this applies for all contests) must have a label affixed to its back with the following information:
o Contest Name, photographer’s name, email address, mailing address, phone number, name and state of
sponsoring club, title and brief caption giving location, date, and other notes about the photo. Arrow
indicating top of photo.
 Date stamps should not appear on the front of any photograph.
 The same image may be submitted to multiple photo contests, as appropriate, but separate photos must be entered
into each contest.
 If your photo wins Best in Category at the Palomar District Arts Festival contest or your club sends a Calendar entry
directly to GFWC in Washington D.C., you must fill out, sign and include with your photo a copy of the GFWC
Creative Arts Waiver form.
 Entries can be black and white or color photos.
 Photos may be taken using film or digital cameras
 Photos will not be returned by GFWC if their winning entry at State goes on to GFWC for judging.
 NEW- All photos must be mounted on a rigid 8 x 10 inch mount board and overall thickness may not exceed 3/8
inch. Do not submit photos with mattes or frames, nor hangers on the back.
 Contestants must be amateur photographers; earnings from photography may not exceed $500 annually.
 No frames or glass enclosing any photograph is allowed
Special Additional Rules for Each Contest:
GFWC Volunteers in Action—provides members with the opportunity to demonstrate their volunteer activities through
photography.









Judges look at overall creativity of subject and quality of photography. In the past, we have emphasized trying not
to pose volunteers, but there have been winning entries that are posed, so it is left up to the photographer’s
discretion.
Photos may be vertical/portrait or horizontal/landscape.
Entries can be either black and white or color photos
All photos must be mounted on a rigid 8 x 10 inch mount board and overall thickness may not exceed 3/8 inch.
Do not submit photos with mattes or frames, nor hangers on the back.
Fill out the appropriate form completely and be sure to draw an arrow on the form or mat indicating the top.
Contest year clarification: Contest year runs from January 1- December 31 (i.e. January 1-December 31, 2014, for
entries judged in 2015)
The World in Pictures (Captures the beauty of the world and people around us in three categories)—MembersLiving Things, Scenes & Still Life.



Members can enter one photo in each of the six categories:

1. Living Things (Black and White)—adults, animals, children, domestic birds, fish, flowers, insects, reptiles.
Wildlife. Do not include any man-made objects in this photo. The emphasis is on “natural”.
2. Scenes (Black & White)- city, landscapes, rural, skies, sunrise, sunset, waterscapes, weather and similar
scenes. Remember, in this category everything should be sharp, in focus.
3. Still Life (Black & White)- abstract (any assemblage of objects either in an arranged or natural setting),
buildings, monuments.
4. Living Things (Black and White)—adults, animals, children, domestic birds, fish, flowers, insects, reptiles.

Students, according to their grade category, can enter one photo in each of the three categories:

Forms:
 Please make copies of the forms for your members to use in the photo contests.

 Use the Club Entry Registration Form included in this booklet to submit the names of all of the members in your
club who are participating in the contests. No entries will be accepted after the deadline.
Photography Pre-registration Form- Due January 14, 2015 to Debbie Bainbridge (Julian)
Entries are due no later than January 21, 2015 (Wednesday) to Debbie Bainbridge (Julian Club). Entries can be mailed to
Debbie or delivered to Board of Director's Meeting in Carlsbad. Entries will not be returned until the Palomar April
Convention.
New for 2015- Calendar entries will NOT be judged at the District level. Each club can submit one entry for national
competition. Mail directly to GFWC by due date- May 15, 2015. California Contests ONLY- Students Grades 6-12 receive
Target Gift Cards and for Graduating Seniors- $300 check.
