SCHOOL PROCEDURES AND TIMETABLE
1.
School Procedures
Schools are asked to ensure that the completed “Application for Taught Postgraduate Study”
with the School’s recommendation for acceptance is sent to Central Students Administration
before the papers for the Scholarship application are forwarded. The Scholarships
Committee will not consider any recommendations received for candidates who have
not been offered an academic place at the University.
2.
Please pay particular attention to the requirements of the particular Endowed Scholarship for
which the candidate has applied. It is possible that the candidate does not meet the eligibility
requirements. If that is the case there is no purpose in giving the application detailed
consideration.
3.
Timetable
The following timetable will operate:
a)
The closing date for receipt of applications from candidates in the Scholarships Office is
15 June 2007 for Endowed Scholarships for taught postgraduate students. Applications
should be submitted on the appropriate form, obtainable from the Scholarships Office or
from the website (http://scholarships.leeds.ac.uk). The Scholarships Office will send
applications to Schools for consideration (some will be sent prior to closing date where
possible).
b)
Schools then have a short period to seek references and make appropriate enquiries (in
many cases such action may be appropriate prior to the closing date).
c)
Heads of Schools, Deputies, or Taught Postgraduate Tutors should then send forward
their recommendations for consideration by the Scholarships Group by no later than 5
July 2007. The original documents and 10 copies of all relevant papers concerning
nominated candidates (see Appendix II for details of all documents required) are to be
sent to Sarah Ellis, Scholarships Office, Ext: 34077.
d)
The decisions will be made by the Scholarships Group at a meeting which will be held on
24 July 2007.
e)
If Schools receive applications from candidates who they do not wish to recommend for
an Endowed Taught Scholarship, they are requested to return the application form to the
Scholarships Office marked with this information. The individual candidates will be sent a
standard letter informing them that their scholarship application has been unsuccessful.
This letter will be sent at the end of July after the outcome of the competition is known.
The names of award holders and reserve lists will be published at the end of July 2007.

Documentation to Accompany School Recommendations for Endowed Taught Scholarships
1.
Please note that the ’’Application for Taught Postgraduate Study’’ form should be received at
Central Student Administration well before any recommendations for the award of
Scholarships are made.
2.
Schools are asked to send the following paperwork with all recommendations for Scholarships
sent forward for consideration by the Scholarships Group:
The original papers and ten photocopies of the following for each recommended candidate:

Head of School/Deputy/Taught PostgraduateTutor;
 the Scholarship application form (original) submitted by the candidate;
 Two academic references (copies) (giving degree result predictions where appropriate).

Therefore, Schools should bear in mind whether or not submitting such a reference will be
advantageous to the candidate;
 Transcripts (copies)
Where candidates have already graduated, full details of the marks obtained (in the form
of transcripts) must be made available; where candidates have not yet graduated, a full
profile of marks in earlier years of study should be provided.
 Formal Offer Letter (copy)
A copy of the formal offer letter sent to the candidate to confirm they have been accepted
on the programme of study they have selected. If the acceptance letter , or if this is not
available, a copy of the study application form with the School recommendation section
completed and signed.
 Application for Taught Postgraduate Study (copy)
Please attach a copy of the 'Application for Taught Postgraduate Study' form. The original
should have been forwarded to Central Student Administration well before any
recommendations for Scholarships are made.
 IELTS/TOEFL Certificate (copy)
Please attach a copy of the IELTS/TOEFL Certificate if applicable.
ALL SCHOOL RECOMMENDATIONS (ORIGINAL AND TEN PHOTOCOPIES) MUST BE SENT
TO SARAH ELLIS IN THE SCHOLARSHIPS OFFICE BY NO LATER THAN 5 July 2007.
Please ensure that all the above are collated as whole sets, ie one complete set = School
Supporting Statement (at the top of each complete set), Scholarship application form, Copy of 2
Academic References, Copy of Full Transcripts, Copy of the Formal Acceptance Letter, Copy of
Study Application Form, Copy of IELTS/TOEFL Certificate (if applicable).
